Helping children close to home is one of the driving forces for us at Renown Health. We have the most comprehensive maternal and pediatric services in the region.
Labor and Delivery Postpartum/Newborn Nursery
Whether a new mom has a normal delivery or a high-risk prenatal and complicated delivery, Renown Regional offers her a wide range of maternity services, all on one floor. On average 350-400 babies are born each month. Obstetrical anesthesia service is available 24 hours a day, operating suites are located within the department to accommodate Cesarean sections as needed, and a highly trained Infant Resuscitation Team is present 24 hours a day for high-risk deliveries.
The labor/delivery/recovery rooms are designed to accommodate the birthing process, from labor through delivery and recovery. Mother and baby are cared for together in a family-centered atmosphere where Dads or other designated partners are encouraged to stay and be active members of the birth process.
Infant security is rigorous on this floor
All babies are tagged with an umbilical security tag, the department routinely holds Code Pink drills, and a security guard is always posted at the entrance to the floor.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
This 30-bed unit sees babies who are born too soon, too small or with serious illnesses or conditions. Because of our Regional Level II Unit designation, infants are transported from within a 100-mile radius of the Reno area.
The staff on this 27-bed unit provides care for the illnesses and injuries of children ranging in age from newborns to teenagers. The unit features a play/therapy room, pet therapy and art programs. Nurses have a tremendous opportunity for cross-training within related departments. The department has a certified nurse specialist and nurse educator to facilitate the educational and competency needs of the staff.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
Established in 1982, Renown Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in the region to offer a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for critically ill and injured children. The eight-bed unit provides care for a high percentage of traumatic injuries in children.
Pediatric Specialty Clinic
Visiting pediatric specialists from throughout the West travel to Reno to treat seriously ill children who would otherwise have to leave their homes and travel distances to receive special medical care. Unique to our community, they treat children with cancer, kidney and lung problems, and other challenging illnesses.
Renown Health offers a Medical Group just for children. Parents can make appointments with pediatricians or speak with one of our registered nurses regarding the health of their children. Children can be seen for regular check-ups or in the case of an illness. A special after-hours service is available to patients of the Medical Group.
