Joint Commission Accreditation
The Joint Commission is the nation's largest healthcare standards-setting and accrediting body. Renown Health, Renown's Home Care, Renown Clinic, Renown Senior Medical Group, and Renown Dialysis Services in Carson City are all accredited by the Joint Commission in recognition of meeting or exceeding the standards in the delivery of healthcare and quality improvement. Renown's Stroke Center is the first in Nevada and one of only 192 nationwides to earn the Gold Seal of Approval for stroke care. The Joint Commission also awarded Renown' s Stroke Center its Primary Stroke Center Certification.
Designated Level II Trauma Center
Awarded by the American College of Surgeons, Renown Regional Medical Center is northern Nevada's only designated level II trauma center.
Cancer Services
Commission on Cancer Accreditation
Renown Institute for Cancer received continued accreditation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Only 25 percent of cancer programs attain this distinction, which recognizes the quality of comprehensive, multidisciplinary patient care. Renown is the only accredited Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer program in northern Nevada, and one of only three statewide.
American College of Radiology (ACR)
Radiation Therapy at Renown Institute for Cancer is the only program in the region to receive national accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for radiation oncology. Only 222 facilities in the United States have received ACR Accreditation for Radiation Oncology and Renown Regional is the only hospital in northern Nevada and northern California to earn this national honor.
Heart Services
Designated Cardiac Surgery Center for Excellence
Renown's Institute for Heart Health has been designated a Center For Excellence in Cardiac Surgery by California Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Neurosciences Services
ABRET Accreditation
The Institute for Neurosciences EEG Laboratory is accredited by the Laboratory Accreditation Board of ABRET. This means the EEG Laboratory met strict standards and is recognized as a place where patients and physicians can have confidence they are receiving quality diagnostics.
Stroke Center Recertification
The Stroke Center at Renown Institute for Neurosciences is the first in Nevada to earn the Gold Seal of Approval for stroke care. As the first stroke center in northern Nevada to be designated as an Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission, patients have access to life-saving treatments and world-class stroke care right here, close to home.
Renown Children's Hospital
NACHRI Membership
Renown Health is proud to announce its acceptance for supporting member status in the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI). Renown Children’s Hospital becomes the first in Nevada and one of 217 institutions in the nation to belong to the nonprofit association, a collective voice for health systems devoted to the well-being of America's 70 million children and their families.
Imaging and Laboratory Services
Imaging Services Accreditation
The American College of Radiology accredited Renown Imaging for magnetic resonance imaging, mammography, breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, gynocological and abdominal imaging.
Laboratory Services Accreditation
The College of American Pathologists has accredited Renown's laboratory services. Based on results from a recent on-site inspection, this national certification recognizes Renown Regional for excellence in service. The hospital is one of 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.
Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories
Participation in the ICAVL accreditation process demonstrates that laboratory's attention to a high level of patient care and quality testing. During the accreditation process, every aspect of the laboratory's daily operations and its impact on quality of health care provided to patients is assessed and reviewed. Renown has two labs that hold this accreditation.
Renown Rehabilitation Hospital
Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
Renown Rehabilitation Hospital is the region’s first and only to receive accreditation. In 2012, the hospital earned a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International, an independent, accrediting body of health and human service providers founded in 1966. During the accreditation process, CARF surveyors reviewed the hospital’s standards and practices in patient health and safety, cultural diversity, service delivery, business processes and quality care. Accreditation demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to providing quality programs and services and a practice of continuous process improvement.
Senior Services
Renown First In Nevada To Join National Effort For Seniors
Renown Health is the first and only health system in Nevada to earn the Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders (NICHE) designation from The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University College of Nursing. NICHE is the only national designation indicating a hospital’s commitment to elder care excellence.
Renown Health is one of only 350 hospitals in the nation with this designation. NICHE hospitals provide the following:
- Enhanced nursing knowledge and skills regarding treatment of common geriatric conditions
- Greater patient satisfaction
- Decreased length of stay for older adult patients
- Improved environmental design that enhances function and comfort for the aging population
