Awards and Accreditations
The skill and expertise of our top-notch physicians and nurses at Renown Institute for Cancer make us the leading place for cancer care.
- Renown is the first accredited Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Care program in Northern Nevada and the only hospital to have this accreditation for 22 years. Only 25 percent of hospitals nationwide meet the Commission's rigorous standards. This accreditation recognizes the quality of comprehensive care available at our facility and offers a commitment that patients will have access to all of the various medical specialists who are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
- Renown is one of only a handful of hospitals that treat gynecologic cancers. Renown is the first in northern Nevada to belong to the Community Cancer Oncology program, making Renown the largest hospital in the area conducting clinical trials with the National Cancer Institute.
- First and only in Northern Nevada to offer TomoTherapy®, a breakthrough cancer treatment.
- First in Northern Nevada to offer physician-guided da Vinci Robotic surgery.
- Offering patient concierge and nurse navigators to help patients and their families on their journey through treatment with ease and a steady companion.
- First in the region offer patients the chance to participate in clinical trials, administering more than 141 trials to more than 870 patients since 1987.
- First in the region to belong to the Community Clinical Oncology Program, which allows the Institute for Cancer to search for a cure through funding for cancer research through the National Cancer Institute.
- First and only in the region to offer Pediatric Specialty Care, the regions only program devoted to childhood blood diseases and cancer care.
Nursing Excellence at the Institute for Cancer
DAISY Award The Daisy Award for Extraordinary nurses recognizes the "super-human work nurses do everyday." It was established by the DAISY foundation - a foundation created for the elimination of disease attacking the immune system in the memory of Patrick J. Barnes. Our recent recipient of the award, Kelly Worley, RN, has been recognized for her hard work in oncology, extraordinary patient care and her dedication to her oncology nursing unit. We are very proud to have a DAISY award recipient!
Journey to Magnet Renown has officially begun its journey toward designation in the Magnet Recognition Program®, the nation's top nursing honor. Developed by the Nurses Credentialing Center, the program encourages nurses and other staff members to work collaboratively with physicians to create a culture where new ideas and exceptionally high work practices thrive. As we work toward Magnet status, the gold standard in nursing excellence, we are fostering innovative, patient-focused ideas and raising the bar on patient care. Our nurses are empowered to do what they know is right and to spend the time they need with patients so we can provide the most expert care.
