RENO, Nev. – (September 7, 2007) – Allan Hanssen, MPA, has been appointed as the new Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Renown Health. In his position, Hanssen will lead the development and implementation of ongoing strategic planning and execution, payer contracting, and operational alignment for the health network. His role will also consistently monitor, assess and address strategic direction and progress.
Prior to this position, Hanssen served as vice president of Network Performance Management and National Program Contracting at CIGNA Healthcare in Bloomfield, Conn. During his years there, Hanssen lead many areas including national ancillary contracting, hospital and professional contracting standards, tactics and performance as well as integrated medical cost saving programs.
Other professional experience is comprised of multiple years serving in chief executive and chief operating officer positions within United Healthcare throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic portions of the country. Areas of emphasis included contracting, medical management and health plan operations for Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid lines of business. He is also the former Principal with William M. Mercer, Incorporated’s, Health Care Provider Consulting Practice in Chicago; vice president/president of Renown Health’s managed care and insurance operations in Reno, Nev. and legislative assistant and legislative correspondent for Congressman Barbara F. Vucanovich (Nev.) in Washington, D.C.
Hanssen earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis and a master’s degree in Health Policy, Planning and Administration from the University of San Francisco.
NEW DIRECTOR OF NURSING AT RENOWN SOUTH MEADOWS MEDICAL CENTER | SEPTEMBER 6, 2007
RENO, Nev. – (September 7, 2007) – Kristin Gillen, MSN, RN, has been appointed as the new Director of Nursing at Renown South Meadows Medical Center. In her position, Gillen will plan, organize and direct nursing services at the hospital.
Gillen began her nursing career in oncology at Renown Regional Medical Center after she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada-Reno. She was the nurse manager for Wellness Center for the Management and Training Corporation doing business as Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center in Reno. She most notably advanced in leadership at Renown Regional where she served as the nursing administrative manager and more recently the nursing operations manager.
She is a member of the Nevada Organization of Nurse Leaders and participated in the Task Force to establish an acuity system at Renown Regional Medical Center. She also served on Renown Health’s Steering Committee for Acuity System, Management Representative for Quality Council of Shared Governances, Clinical Interdisciplinary Committee for Policy and Procedures and Management Representative for Magnet Committee.
Gillen also recently received a master’s degree in nursing with an emphasis in administration from the University of Nevada Reno.
NEW ADMINISTRATOR OF THE RENOWN REHABILITATION HOSPITAL | SEPTEMBER 6, 2007
RENO, Nev. – (September 7, 2007) – Brian Cotter, RN, has been appointed as the new Administrator of the Renown Rehabilitation Hospital. In his position, Cotter will provide overall management of post-acute Rehabilitation Services, Skilled Nursing and related post-acute care services.
With more than 15 years of leadership experience in healthcare, Cotter was previously the director of operations Arizona Division for Total Care Management Associates in Las Vegas, Nev.; executive vice president for Physicians Practice Management in Redondo Beach, Cal.; chief executive officer (interim) for Wichita Specialty Hospital in Wichita, Kan.; regional director – sales and marketing for Healthsouth – Inpatient Division/West Region in Birmingham, Ala.; regional director of business development – western United States for Promise Healthcare Inc. in Boca Raton, Fla.; chief nurse executive for Carson Rehabilitation Center in Carson City; director of program development for Tahoe Pacific Hospitals (LifeCare) in Reno; patient care director for Northern Nevada Medical Center in Reno; administrative director, registered nurse, critical care unit, emergency department for North Bay Medical Center/Vacavalley Hospital in Fairfield, Cal. and registered nurse, mobile intensive care nurse, emergency department for Sutter Solano Medical Center in Vallejo, Cal.
Cotter earned a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Columbus University. He also earned an associate’s degree – Registered Nurse from Solano College School of Nursing.
