Medical Education Overview Renown Regional Medical Center is designated a major participating institution by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. The University of Nevada School of Medicine and Renown Health share the common goal of preparing physicians to serve the communities of Nevada, both in primary care and specialty fields. The School of Medicine coordinates the overall educational program. Renown Regional Medical Center and its affiliates provide the clinical environment and support educational conferences. Partial funding of resident and program-specific administrative expenses is also provided.
The patient care and services provided by the residents, fellow physicians and medical students benefit both our hospital and community. Three programs comprise the overall residency training program in Reno - Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. Presently, the School of Medicine offers fellowships in Geriatrics, Hospice/Palliative Care, Sports Medicines, Obstetrics and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Approximately half of both the third and fourth year medical student classes rotate through Renown and its affiliates. Students may also elect to do all or a portion of their rotations in Las Vegas.
Non-University of Nevada School of Medicine students may apply to the University of Nevada School of Medicine for fourth year elective rotations in the Reno area, subsequently rotating through Renown and/or its affiliates. The hospital accepts the completed and approved application from the University of Nevada School of Medicine as stipulation that specific parameters have been met. It is recommended that interested students contact the Office of Medical Education at the School of Medicine.
