Technology

Renown Institute for Neurosciences utilizes the most advanced technology for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. Along with this state-of-the-art technology, expert physicians offer quality care right here at home.

Biplane Angiography is state-of-the-art technology for treating strokes
With this technology, highly skilled interventional neuroradiologists see enhanced views of the brain in three dimensions. They then snake a catheter through a major artery in the leg or arm directly to the stroke site in the brain where a clot-busting drug can be delivered in the case of an ischemic stroke and for a hemorrhagic stroke, coils can be placed to stop the bleeding.

MERCI Clot Retriever
For stroke patients that are not candidates for tPA, a clot-busting drug, a skilled interventional neuroradiologist can use bi-plane angiography to guide the MERCI (Mechanical Embolus Removal in Cerebral Ischemia) Clot Retriever, a tiny corkscrew-shaped device, inside a catheter through the blood vessel to the site of the blockage where it can be used to grab the clot for removal.

Penumbra
For stroke patients that are not candidates for tPA, a clot-busting drug, a skilled interventional neuroradiologist can use bi-plane angiography to guide the Penumbra to the blood clot in the brain. The Penumbra Systems is designed to revascularize large vessel occlusions within the brain. The Penumbra System uses a microcatheter and unique separator system approach to restore circulation within the brain.
