Community Partners
At Renown Institute for Cancer, we believe in the power of partnership.
And we know that the best way to accomplish our community outreach initiatives is to work with other non-profit organizations. We work alongside many outstanding organizations including the University of Nevada School of Medicine, with whom we prepare the physicians of tomorrow. We also join the American Cancer Society in their efforts to raise money and awareness within our community. In addition, we team with Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in their fight to defeat breast cancer.
University of Nevada School of Medicine The large majority of all clinical teaching in northern Nevada happens here at Renown. We have two outstanding attending oncologists in Dr. Antonio H. Fontelonga and Dr. F. Roy MacKintosh who oversee the efforts of internal medicine residents rotating through our medical oncology unit. And in fact, we are the only facility where fourth-year medical students have the resources to study the many aspects of radiation oncology.
American Cancer Society Renown continues to enjoy its relationship with the American Cancer Society (ACS). As the hospital that houses the only on-site ACS office in the state, we're in a unique position to help bring charity events to our community. This year, we again teamed up to sponsor Relay for Life, an event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money to fight cancer. Renown was proud to cosponsor the survivor dinner along with Outback Steakhouse.
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation of Northern Nevada Renown is a proud participant in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's Race for the Cure. In 2008, The Renown Racers showed support for the cause with more than 100 team members. We are the fortunate recipient of a Komen Foundation grant that helps fund transportation, temporary lodging and nutritional supplements for rural breast cancer patients.
