Reno, Nev. (May 29, 2009) – Renown Regional Medical Center celebrated the opening of Fianna’s Healing Garden, Thursday, May 28. More than 125 people attended the event that marked the garden’s completion.
During what is considered to be the strongest economic downturn in decades, northern Nevada community members rallied to show their support for Fianna’s Healing Garden. In fact, the fundraising goal for the garden was met with financial and in-kind gifts totaling more than $1 million including nearly $60,000 donated from Renown Health employees.
Fianna’s Healing Garden is a place where medical concerns and pain can be replaced by the serenity and beauty of the outdoors. The garden provides a distinctive opportunity for Renown Health to make a
genuine difference for hospital patients, visitors, employees and physicians.
Longtime Reno resident, business leader and master gardener, Fianna Combs, shared Renown Health’s belief in the healing powers of nature. Combs, who lost her life to ovarian cancer in February 2008, was instrumental in the planning and design of the healing garden at Renown Regional Medical Center. During the last few months of her life, she helped hospital staff refine their vision for the garden. This garden is her legacy.
