About the Healing Arts Program Healing is more than getting quality medical care. At Renown Health, we’re working to create an environment that exceeds the boundaries of traditional medicine. For centuries, cultures around the world have used all mediums of art to promote healing, which is why Renown Health includes original artworks in its facilities. During a patient’s most difficult moments, art can be a source of inspiration, comfort and strength. Online Art Gallery: By Artists | By Artwork | By Lobby |

Music at the Bedside: Colin Ross Our bedside musician program began in 2007 with our resident musician Colin Ross. Colin has played for patients at Renown Children’s Hospital, Renown Skilled Nursing and Renown Rehabilitation Hospital. Colin, as well as other area musicians, frequently play the piano in the Tahoe Tower at Renown Regional Medical Center and other Renown facilities. |

Pet Therapy The healing power of a visit from a furry friend is demonstrated through our Pet Therapy Program, which began in 1997. Our 14 therapy dogs visit patients at multiple Renown Health locations. All dogs that participate are registered and certified pet therapy dogs. |

Healing Arts Performances Monthly concerts at Renown Regional Medical Center and Renown South Meadows Medical Center are made available at no charge to the public. During these concerts, many patients make their way to the concert area with the assistance of their families or nursing staff. The soothing music is a draw both for patients and physicians, nurses and visitors as well. |

Art at the Bedside Working with artists from Sierra Water Color Society, art is provided at the bedside in Renown Children’s Hospital, Renown Rehabilitation Hospital and Renown South Meadows. Patients are able to create a piece of art that will go home with them when they are discharged. The art is matted and ready for framing. In many cases, patients have been able to renew a long forgotten skill or discover new skills. One such patient commented, “I used to do some painting and never thought I would start again. With my bedside artist, I have begun painting again. The artist even gave me some brushes and paints to take home. What a great program this is!” |

Healing Gardens Providing strength and peace for all who visit, Renown Regional Medical Center features two Healing Gardens. Fianna’s Healing Garden offers medicinal plants, original sculptures and artwork, and a serene environment designed to promote patient healing and comfort. The John & Sue Dermody Children’s Healing Garden provides children and their families a sanctuary outside of a hospital, featuring play structures, colorful outdoor art, picnic tables and benches and an indoor Teen and Kids’ Zone with a computer and reading corner. |

Literature and Medicine
Literature & Medicine is made possible through a partnership between Renown Health’s Healing Arts Program and Nevada Humanities. A reading and discussion program is designed specifically for healthcare professionals to improve their communication and interpersonal skills, which increases their cultural awareness, empathy for patients and job satisfaction. As one participant writes, Literature & Medicine “renews the heart and soul of healthcare.” |
