Renown Regional Medical Center is the only trauma center between Sacramento and Salt Lake City, treating over 80,000 ER and trauma patients a year, and home to Northern Nevada’s only children’s hospital. Surrounding rural communities are also highly impacted by the critically ill and injured patients requiring trauma care.
The Northern Nevada Trauma Symposium aims to offer an ideal mix of traditional standard-of-care principles and new innovative information to improve trauma care. The symposium will explore issues in several areas including trauma care in the pediatric and adult population, including; pediatric head injuries and the importance of imaging, procedures in pediatric emergency care, trauma care in the rural setting, the inter-facility transfer process, history and development of the concept of trauma-informed care, social determinants of health in our community, primary prevention of trauma and promotion of resilience and optimizing trauma care through the continuum. Multiple learning modalities will be incorporated into the course to engage the learner in the educational process and help them develop new strategies they can apply in their own practice setting.
