The employees and physicians at Renown South Meadows Medical Center have once again been honored for having the highest quality patient care in the community, according to a recent report released from The Joint Commission
. The Joint Commission honored Renown South Meadows as a Top Performing Hospital for meeting the "95 percent or greater" performance threshold for evidence-based clinical processes in both pneumonia and surgical care.
Gold Seal of Approval for Hip and Knee Joint Replacement
Renown Regional Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission
’s Gold Seal of Approval® for its management of hip and knee joint replacements. This approval recognizes Renown's dedication to compliance with The Joint Commission’s rigorous standards. Renown underwent a thorough on-site review, where the Joint Commission evaluated the Total Joint Replacement program for compliance and standards of care specific to patients needs, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. Renown received its certification by The Joint Commission in February 2015.
Designated Level II Trauma Center
Pathway to Excellence
Renown Regional Medical Center and Renown South Meadows Medical Center both earned redesignation for Pathway to Excellence® in 2015. Each hospital was originally named an American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Pathway to Excellence® Hospital beginning in 2012. This designation is awarded to healthcare organizations that demonstrate a dedication to nursing excellence and confirms what Renown nurses have always been committed to — providing the best patient care possible including recognizes elements of an ideal nursing practice environment including safety in the work environment, systems to address patient care concerns and nurse recognition. As of July 1, 2016, Renown Regional and Renown South Meadows were just two of 141 hospitals nationally — and the only two hospitals in Nevada — to have earned the designation.
Truven Top 100 Hospitals
Renown South Meadows Medical Center is one of Truven Health Analytics 2016 100 Top Hospitals. This award evaluates hospitals on measures of overall organizational performance, including patient care, operational efficiency, financial stability, and patient perception of care. Renown South Meadows Medical Center is also the winner of the 2016 Everest Award which honors hospitals that have both the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over 5 years.
Commission on Cancer Accreditation
Renown Institute for Cancer received continued accreditation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons
. Only 25 percent of cancer programs attain this distinction, which recognizes the quality of comprehensive, multidisciplinary patient care. Renown is the only accredited Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer program in northern Nevada, and one of only three statewide.
American College of Radiology (ACR)
Radiation Therapy at Renown Institute for Cancer is the only program in the region to receive national accreditation from the American College of Radiology
(ACR) for radiation oncology. Only 222 facilities in the United States have received ACR Accreditation for Radiation Oncology and Renown Regional is the only hospital in the northern Nevada and northern California area to earn this national honor.
National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)
Renown Institute for Cancer is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
(NAPBC). NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations from around the nation focused on breast health. The accreditation is given to centers dedicated to the improvement of quality care and outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast through evidence-based standards and patient and professional education.
Designated Cardiac Surgery Center for Excellence
The Institute for Neurosciences' EEG Laboratory is accredited by the Laboratory Accreditation Board of ABRET
; accreditation means the EEG Laboratory met strict standards and is recognized as a place where patients and physicians can have confidence they are receiving quality diagnostics. ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) is the credentialing board for EEG, Evoked Potential, and Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Technologists.
Gold Seal of Approval for Stroke Care
The Stroke Center at Renown Regional Medical Center earned the Gold Seal of Approval® for stroke care by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
. Designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission, patients have access to life-saving treatments and world-class stroke care right here, close to home. Renown received its re-certification by The Joint Commission in March 2012.

Children’s Cystic Fibrosis Program

is one of 55 affiliate programs nationwide to be approved for accreditation as an Affiliate Program by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Center Committee. The program follows a team approach to care and all patients are seen by a dedicated team of pediatric pulmonology, nurses, dietitians, social worker, and respiratory therapists.

ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award
The ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award
is given out by the National Cardiovascular Data Registry. It recognizes hospitals for their commitment and success in achieving a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. Renown’s Institute for Heart & Vascular Health achieved a 90 percent or better on specific performance measures for eight consecutive quarters.
Anticoagulation Center of Excellence
Achieved recognition as an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence
by the Anticoagulation Forum, a multidisciplinary non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of care for patients taking blood-thinning medications. The two-year Anticoagulation Center of Excellence designation is awarded to programs that provide the highest level of comprehensive care and achieve the best possible outcomes for patients on blood thinners.
Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
Renown Rehabilitation Hospital is the region's first and only to receive accreditation. In 2012, the hospital earned a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International
, an independent, accrediting body of health and human service providers founded in 1966. During the accreditation process, CARF surveyors reviewed the hospital's standards and practices in patient health and safety, cultural diversity, service delivery, business processes and quality care. Accreditation demonstrates the hospital's commitment to providing quality programs and services and a practice of continuous process improvement.
HealthInsight Quality Award
Renown South Meadows Medical Center was one of three Nevada hospitals to receiveHealth Insight’s Quality Award
in 2016. HealthInsight recognizes Medicare-certified providers for demonstrating high quality health care and excellence in performance on publicly reported quality of care measures. Quality of care measures come from patient information that is collected from home health agencies, nursing homes, and hospitals. These measures provide one piece of information that consumers can use to decide how well providers care for their patients.

Renown Health’s Patient Centered Medical Home Team is healthcare that is customized and centered on you, the patient. The medical team approach establishes a partnership between the patient and his or her healthcare provider - he or she then leads a team of healthcare professionals committed to improving your overall health. Team members may include: Primary care provider, Nurse, Physician assistant, Specialty physicians, Therapists, Dietitians.
Nevada Health Care Association
The Nevada Health Care Association (NVHCA)
annual Endeavors event recognizes the state’s top-performing health care facilities working in post-acute care. In 2015, Renown Skilled Nursing earned the Bronze Award for Quality of Care Excellence – making the care facility one of the top five facilities in the state. The award demonstrates the excellence in patient-focused care. The NVHCA is a nonprofit charitable organization that works to improve the quality of care in Nevada’s post-acute care facilities - which includes skilled nursing and related care facilities - and provides education and enhanced training to their providers.
Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) Screening Center of Excellence
Renown Regional Medical Center has been named a Screening Center of Excellence by The Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA)
for its ongoing commitment to responsible lung cancer screening. Studies have shown Low dose CT screening for lung cancer carried out safely, efficiently and equitably saves tens of thousands of lives a year. Designated Screening Centers of Excellence are committed to providing clear information on lung cancer screening and comply with comprehensive standards based on best practices developed by professional bodies such as the American College of Radiology (ACR), the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (I-ELCAP). Renown Regional Medical Center practices low dose CT screening for lung cancer and is committed to providing the highest level of patient care.
Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)
Renown Regional Medical Center’s bariatric surgery program has earned the highest accreditation – the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)
. This designation of being a top-level comprehensive center demonstrates advance safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients. As a part of MBSAQIP’s review process, our bariatric program reports how many patients served annually with outcome measures to meet national standards. To earn MBSAQIP accreditation, Renown Regional confirmed the ability to support a bariatric surgical care program and measure up to the rigorous performance requirements outlined by the accreditation standards.
