The employees and physicians at Renown South Meadows Medical Center have once again been honored for having the highest quality patient care in the community, according to a recent report released from The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission honored Renown South Meadows as a Top Performing Hospital for meeting the "95 percent or greater" performance threshold for evidence-based clinical processes in both pneumonia and surgical care.
Gold Seal of Approval for Hip and Knee Joint Replacement
Renown Regional Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission
’s Gold Seal of Approval® for its management of Joint Replacement for Hip and Knee. This approval recognizes Renown's dedication to compliance with The Joint Commission’s rigorous standards. Renown underwent a thorough on-site review, where the Joint Commission evaluated the Total Joint Replacement program for compliance, standards of care specific to patients needs, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. Renown received its certification by The Joint Commission in February 2015.
Designated Level II Trauma Center
Pathway to Excellence 2012
In August 2012, Renown Regional Medical Center and Renown South Meadows Medical Center became the first and only Pathway to Excellence® hospitals in Nevada. Only 87 hospitals out of more than 5,000 nationally have earned the award. Additionally, only 23 states have such designated hospitals, most of which being located on the east coast. The Pathway to Excellence award honors a work environment designed to improve overall nursing satisfaction and improve retention of quality nursing staff. Pathway to Excellence recognizes a number of elements of an ideal nursing practice environment including safety in the work environment, systems to address patient care concerns and nurse recognitions.
Commission on Cancer Accreditation
Renown Institute for Cancer received continued accreditation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Only 25 percent of cancer programs attain this distinction, which recognizes the quality of comprehensive, multidisciplinary patient care. Renown is the only accredited Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer program in northern Nevada, and one of only three statewide.
American College of Radiology (ACR)
Radiation Therapy at Renown Institute for Cancer is the only program in the region to receive national accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for radiation oncology. Only 222 facilities in the United States have received ACR Accreditation for Radiation Oncology and Renown Regional is the only hospital in northern Nevada and northern California to earn this national honor.
National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)
Renown Institute for Cancer is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). NAPBC is a consortium of national, professional organizations focused on breast health and dedicated to the improvement of quality care and outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast through evidence-based standards and patient and professional education.
Designated Cardiac Surgery Center for Excellence
Renown's Institute for Heart Health has been designated a Center For Excellence in Cardiac Surgery by California Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
The Institute for Neurosciences' EEG Laboratory is accredited by the Laboratory Accreditation Board of ABRET; accreditation means the EEG Laboratory met strict standards and is recognized as a place where patients and physicians can have confidence they are receiving quality diagnostics. ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) is the credentialing board for EEG, Evoked Potential, and Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Technologists.
Gold Seal of Approval for Stroke Care
The Stroke Center at Renown Regional Medical Center earned the Gold Seal of Approval® for stroke care by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission, patients have access to life-saving treatments and world-class stroke care right here, close to home. Renown received its re-certification by The Joint Commission in March 2012.
Silver Plus Award for Stroke
Awarded the Silver Plus Achievement award in 2014 by the American Stroke Association. This award recognizes the hospital team for quality achievement in the Get With The Guidelines quality improvement program.
Children's Hospital Associations Membership
Renown Health is proud to announce its acceptance for supporting member status in the Children's Hospital Association (CHA). Renown Children's Hospital becomes the first in Nevada and one of 217 institutions in the nation to belong to the nonprofit association, a collective voice for health systems devoted to the well-being of America's 70 million children and their families.

College of American Pathologists
The College of American Pathologists has accredited Renown’s clinical laboratory services. Based on results from an on-site inspection, this national certification recognizes Renown Regional for excellence in service. The hospital is one of 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.
IBCLC Care Award 2013-2015
Renown Health is a proud recipient of the IBCLC Care Award. Recognized by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), the award is presented to hospitals and community-based facilities worldwide that hire currently certified International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).
Children’s Cystic Fibrosis Program
The Cystic Fibrosis program
at Renown Children's Hospital
is one of 55 affiliate programs nationwide to be approved for accreditation as an Affiliate Program by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Center Committee. The program follows a team approach to care and all patients are seen by a dedicated team of pediatric pulmonology, nurses, dietitians, social worker, and respiratory therapists.

Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories
Participation in the ICAVL accreditation process demonstrates that laboratory's attention to a high level of patient care and quality testing. During the accreditation process, every aspect of the laboratory's daily operations and its impact on quality of healthcare provided to patients is assessed and reviewed. Renown has two labs that hold this accreditation.

ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award
The ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award is given out by the National Cardiovascular Data Registry. It recognizes hospitals for their commitment and success in achieving a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. Renown’s Institute for Heart & Vascular Health achieved a 90 percent or better on specific performance measures for eight consecutive quarters.
Anticoagulation Center of Excellence
Achieved recognition as an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence by the Anticoagulation Forum, a multidisciplinary non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of care for patients taking blood-thinning medications. The two-year Anticoagulation Center of Excellence designation is awarded to programs that provide the highest level of comprehensive care and achieve the best possible outcomes for patients on blood thinners.
Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
Renown Rehabilitation Hospital is the region's first and only to receive accreditation. In 2012, the hospital earned a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International, an independent, accrediting body of health and human service providers founded in 1966. During the accreditation process, CARF surveyors reviewed the hospital's standards and practices in patient health and safety, cultural diversity, service delivery, business processes and quality care. Accreditation demonstrates the hospital's commitment to providing quality programs and services and a practice of continuous process improvement.
HealthInsight Quality Award
Sixteen Renown Medical Group offices received Health Insight’s Quality Award in 2014. The award is given to physician office practices that demonstrate excellence in patient care. These physician office practices were recognized for incorporating patient engagement tools and strategies into their care processes; using care management methods regularly; participating in a data reporting quality initiative; and achieving exemplary performance on nationally-recognized quality measures related to diabetes, cancer screening and immunizations.
NCQA Recognition Programs
National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition is the most widely-used way to transform primary care practices into medical homes. The Committee is dedicated to improving healthcare quality. Renown Health’s Patient Centered Medical Home Team is healthcare that is customized and centered on you, the patient. The medical team approach establishes a partnership between the patient and his or her healthcare provider - he or she then leads a team of healthcare professionals committed to improving your overall health. Team members may include: Primary care provider, Nurse, Physician assistant, Specialty physicians, Therapists, Dietitians.
Nevada Health Care Association
The Nevada Health Care Association (NVHCA) annual Endeavors event recognizes the state’s top-performing health care facilities working in post-acute care. In 2015, Renown Skilled Nursing earned the Bronze Award for Quality of Care Excellence – making the care facility one of the top five facilities in the state. The award demonstrates the excellence in patient-focused care. The NVHCA is a nonprofit charitable organization that works to improve the quality of care in Nevada’s post-acute care facilities - which includes skilled nursing and related care facilities - and provides education and enhanced training to their providers.
