This position is a supporting role in the Rehab therapy department. This position is responsible for providing continuity of business operations, support functions, and direct patient care functions under the supervision of Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Therapy Leadership. This position is responsible for transporting of equipment and supplies. This position also assists therapists with patient mobility and activities of daily living as directed by the licensed therapists, transporting of patients for speech studies, and assisting with feeding patients during speech exams. In addition, they will perform basic maintenance and cleaning of various therapy equipment items, including cleaning and reprocessing endoscopes.
The incumbent must possess the ability to communicate with patients and families in a caring and professional manner and must be able to function independently in a fast-pace and high-intensity atmosphere. This position is challenged to maintain accuracy; communicate effectively; function effectively under stress; have the ability to identify and maintain priorities while responding simultaneously to requests from various people.
The incumbent will be required to assist the therapy staff in a timely and consistent manner. Depending on location of services, these duties include, but are not limited to:
· Transporting of equipment and supplies
· Clerical responsibilities
· Ordering and stocking of therapy supplies
· Assisting therapists with patient mobility and activities of daily living as directed by the licensed therapists
· Assist with higher level balance activities, as directed by the licensed therapists
· Directing patients in therapeutic exercises/activities as directed by the licensed therapist
· Set up and assist with diagnostic studies
· Perform high level disinfection and reprocessing of endoscopes. In addition, accurately maintains comprehensive quality assurance standards related to sterilization and infection control.
· Set-up and performance of therapeutic modalities (including Mechanical Traction, Electrical Stimulation, and Paraffin), as directed by the licensed therapist
· Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of various therapy equipment
· Assist in scheduling and check in/check out procedures for patient appointments/schedules
· Taking and recording vital signs as directed by the licensed therapist
The incumbent must possess the ability to communicate with patients and families in a caring and professional manner. The incumbent must be able to multi-task, take initiation, prioritize duties and function independently in a fast paced and high-intensity atmosphere.
Per diem staff are required to work at least 1 major and 1 minor holiday each year. Major holidays are defined as Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Minor holidays are defined as New Years Eve, New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. If an area is closed on major holidays, the requirement is to work at least 1 day the week of the holiday period.
This position does provide patient care.
