The number one cause of death for children under the age of 14 is motor vehicle crashes. There is a way to protect your children. The Northern Nevada Child Passenger Safety Seat Fitting Station is the region's first full-time facility to offer child vehicle safety restraint education, inspection and installation.
The Fitting Station is operated through a partnership with Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA), Renown Children's Hospital and Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.
What does Nevada law require?
Nevada state law requires that children less than 6 years of age and weighing 60 pounds or less to be secured in an appropriate child restraint system while being transported in a motor vehicle.
When should I visit?
The Northern Nevada Fitting Station does require appointments. To make an appointment, please call 775-815-0981. If you are pregnant, we recommend you make an appointment at least two weeks prior to your due date. If your child is advancing to a larger seat or if you have purchased a new car seat, please call for an appointment as soon as possible. Appointments are approximately 30 minutes.
Is there a charge for this service?
Yes. Cost of installation and education is $45. Additionally, car seats are available for purchase. Car seats purchased from the Northern Nevada Fitting Station must be installed at the time of purchase, with a minimum fee of $5 per seat.
The Northern Nevada Fitting Station offers a sliding-fee scale for both the installation and the seat costs. You must provide proof of income in order to receive a reduced rate. Some fees will be waived completely for those who qualify.
Who staffs the Fitting Station?
The Northern Nevada Fitting Station is staffed by nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Instructors and trained volunteers.
