Complementary Therapies

The goal of complementary medicine is to balance the whole person – physically, mentally and emotionally. For many people diagnosed with cancer, complementary medicine has helped relieve symptoms, ease treatment side effects and improve quality of life. Classes and programs aim to help strengthen your body, nurture your courage and enrich your spirit. Our support groups, classes, workshops and services are open to everyone. Choose the offerings that best meet your needs. You don't have to go through your journey alone.

Healing Touch

Healing Touch is an integrative energy therapy used in conjunction with traditional therapies. This energy therapy aims to restore and balance energy to help decrease pain and relieve associated anxiety. Healing Touch can help balance, energize and support the human energy system to promote healing for the mind, body and spirit.

Healing Arts
The Healing Arts Program at Renown Health includes live piano music, music and art at the bedside, original artwork and visits from our Pet Therapy teams. Ask the information desk for a self-guided tour art map or visit our Healing Arts online. 

Nutrition is a process in which food is taken in and used by the body for growth, to keep the body healthy and to replace tissue. Good nutrition is important for good health. Cancer Support Group
This group is for people facing cancer, and is facilitated by an Oncology Social Worker who is skilled in the emotional aspects of cancer. Meeting format enables participants to share experiences and express feelings and concerns. Meets weekly on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Roseview Tower, Third Floor Orthopedic Conference Room.

Look Good... Feel Better

You can Look Good and Feel Better with the help of local cosmetology professionals. Each woman will receive a one-on-one makeover and take home a gift bag of cosmetics donated by nationally known cosmetic manufacturers as well as instructions on the use of scarves and hairpieces. Co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6-8 p.m., Roseview Tower, Third Floor Orthopedic Conference Room. Registration required.

Man-to-Man Prostate Cancer Support Group

Prostate Support Group
Facilitated by a prostate cancer survivor, this support group is designed to help men cope with prostate cancer by offering education and support. Meets 1st and 3rd Monday of the month from 5:30 - 7 p.m., Roseview Tower, Third Floor Orthopedic Conference Room.

ThyCa - Thyroid Cancer Support Group

Members share their experiences and give support for individuals with thyroid cancer. Information will be available from ThyCa to assist in understanding thyroid cancer.

ThyCa meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 12-1:30 p.m. at Renown Regional Medical Center, Sierra 104 Classroom.

Women's Breast and Gynecologic Cancer Support Group

Everyone is invited to share experiences, concerns and feelings, and offer hope and help to one another through their cancer journey. Meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7 p.m. Roseview Tower, Third Floor Orthopedic Conference Room. Call to confirm dates and times of meetings.

Cancer Concierge

The Cancer Concierge is dedicated to anticipating the needs of you and your family by providing helpful, supportive and educational resources including:

  • Cancer information and resources complete with a Cancer Lending Library
  • Facilitating home healthcare, palliative (support) and hospice information
  • Counseling and support
  • Providing durable medical equipment (DME) referrals including walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen and canes
  • Facilitating financial assistance program referrals
  • Coordinating transportation and lodging service referrals
  • Boutique services including wigs, scarves, camisoles and prosthetic referrals
  • Facilitating complementary therapy service referrals including acupuncture, healing touch and exercise programs

Cancer Resource Center
Located on the ground floor of the Institute for Cancer, the Sally de Lipkau Cancer Resource Center offers many support services for you and your family, including:

A cancer diagnosis can be hard and stressful for everyone in the family. Our full scope of support services helps you and your family receive personalized care and continuous guidance throughout your journey. You are connected with dietitians and social workers, each of whom specialize in working with cancer patients.

Cancer Counseling Service

Emotional and mental health is a vital component of the healing and recovery process. Renown Behavioral Health helps you address the emotional aspects of cancer. Counseling services may include emotional and psychological support, treatment of depression and anxiety, as well as stress management and relaxation techniques. As a part of a grant from the Renown Health Foundation, you are entitled to eight free counseling sessions. Counseling sessions are available by appointment.

Financial Counseling

Financial counselors can help determine how much of the bill will be covered by insurance. They can also find sources of financial aid that may be available.

Nutrition Services

The dietitian is available to meet with you and your family to discuss individual nutritional needs and concerns. Here are a few nutritional tips:

  • Be prepared for tastes to change from day to day
  • Have food within easy reach at home
  • Have meals and snacks ready
  • Encourage plenty of fluids even if you're not hungry
  • Try not to push eating and drinking. Encourage with support without being overwhelming

Social Worker
There are a lot of decisions that need to be made during your cancer journey, and sometimes it can get overwhelming for you and your family. That’s why we have a licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Oncology Social Worker on staff. They assist families with:
