Smart Health Connection Monthly Health Screenings @ Renown Medical Group

For over 16 years, Renown Smart Health Connection has offered one of the region’s most comprehensive healthy aging programs. Designed to enhance the health and wellness of thousands of young children to adults, Smart Health Connection provides residents of northern Nevada with important health information, health screenings and educational events.

Screenings and Cost

  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel + Lipid Profile, tests for 14 different measurements including cholesterol, HDL, LDL, ratio and triglycerides (fasting required 10 hours prior to test, may take medications with water only); $35
  • PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen), blood test for prostate cancer; $40
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis Factor
  • C-Reactive Protein, may be helpful in assessing risk of developing heart disease; $30
  • Thyroid Profile (TSH, T4, Free T4); $75
  • Blood Typing,  identifies the specific antigens that determine blood type and Rh factor; $30
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC), determines number of platelets, red and white blood cells, checks for anemia, leukemia, and problems with blood clotting; $20
  • Glycohemoglobin (Hemoglobin A1C), used most frequently to assess blood sugar controls in diabetics; $30
  • TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), test to evaluate thyroid function; $40
  • Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy, to identify possible deficiency in Vitamin D; $45

Eligibility & Payment

  • Unable to accept Medicare Part B beneficiaries
  • Adults over the age of 18 may attend (under 18 must be accompanied by a parent)
  • The screenings are on a first come, first-served basis
  • Cash, personal check or  a major credit card for exact amount only

Breastfeeding (Beyond the Basics) @ Renown Regional Medical Center

Get off to a “Great Start” with our breastfeeding your newborn class. Babies are born to breastfeed and in this class you will learn about latching and positioning techniques, how to establish or increase an abundant milk supply, signs of success and how to avoid or treat common breastfeeding concerns. In-depth discussion about the first days of feeding, the importance of skin-to-skin contact and rooming-in at the hospital, you will also learn your baby’s hunger cues. Guidance on nursing bras, pillows and other support items are included. The main focus of Breastfeeding your newborn class is in the early weeks and months of nursing.

Parents leave this class feeling more confident in their ability to nourish their newborn and to make informed feeding choices. This class may be taken after the fifth of the month of pregnancy,  prior to giving birth or after the birth of your baby.

Our breastfeeding classes are taught by experienced lactation educators and or consultants.

This event will be held within Renown Regional Medical Center in the Tahoe Tower at Mack Auditorium. The class cost is $20 including your spouse or partner, who is encouraged to attend.

Grief Support Group @ Reno Senior Center

Initial grief is sometimes referred to as Acute Grief. It is often unpredictable and can feel overwhelming. Renown Hospice Care offers a Grief Support Group every 1st and 3rd Wednesday for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

If you have lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, you may find there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. Join this support group so you don’t have to go through the grieving process alone.

Breastfeeding Forum @ Renown Regional Medical Center, The Lactation Connection

Breastfeeding Forum Breastfeeding Forum is a great place for breastfeeding moms to find support, exchange experiences and discuss any concerns you might have. Mothers discuss their experiences and concerns such as milk supply, pumping, going back to work, sleeping or lack of sleep, to name just a few.

We meet every Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. in the Capri Conference Room at Renown South Meadows Medical Center and now every Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at The Lactation Connection at Renown Regional Medical Center.

Cancer Support Group @ Renown Regional Medical Center
Sep 3 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

This group is for patients and families facing cancer, and is facilitated by an Oncology Social Worker who is skilled in the emotional aspects of cancer.

Meeting format enables participants to share experiences and express feelings and concerns.

The support group meets weekly on Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Renown Regional Medical Center in the Roseview Tower, Third Floor Orthopedic Conference Room.

Baby and Family Suites Tour @ Renown Regional Medical Center

This tour includes a visit to our luxurious Baby & Family Suites, labor and delivery rooms, our new Labor Assessment Area and the William N. Pennington Nursery. You’ll also learn more about the pre-admission process, where to check-in and what to expect during your visit.

This event will take place at Renown Regional Medical Center on the second floor of the Sierra Tower at Labor and Delivery. In order to attend, you must receive confirmation in order to attend all classes and tours.

Total Joint Replacement Classes @ Renown Regional Medical Center, Artisans Room 107

Learn more about total hip or knee replacement by attending a free class, held every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month (excluding holidays).

Men’s Prostate Cancer Support Group @ Renown Regional Medical Center

Facilitated by a prostate cancer survivor, this support group is designed to help men cope with prostate cancer by offering education and support for patients during their cancer journey.

Meets 1st and 3rd Monday of the month from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., at Renown Regional Medical Center in the Roseview Tower, Third Floor Orthopedic Conference Room.
