When is vacation time available to me?

Annual leave time is available on day one of employment. Exempt employees annual leave is front-loaded and hourly (non-exempt) employees accrue annual leave each pay period. Annual leave is subject to prior approval from the person to whom an employee reports and is granted according to the needs of the department.

When is sick time available to me?

Sick time is calculated at the close of a pay period and available for use in the following pay period. To use sick leave pay, employees must appropriately notify the person to whom he/she reports.

What does exempt and non-exempt mean?

Employees are classified as exempt or nonexempt based on their job categories and duties performed. Exempt employees are exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standards Act because they meet the specific criteria for exemption. Nonexempt employees are subject to wage and hour laws, such as overtime pay. Nonexempt employees must clock in and out to record their time worked.
