Join us for our free virtual Smoking Cessation 4-week program courtesy of Renown Health. This class is available to all who want to learn the risks of smoking and the benefits of quitting. In addition, participants will learn about their triggers to smoking, ways to cope while quitting, and available products to assist with becoming tobacco-free. This program begins on the 1st Wednesday of each month and will meet every Wednesday for four weeks from 4 to 5 p.m. Upon registering, you will receive instructions on virtually connecting 1-2 days before the class.

Accreditation This program has been submitted for review for up to 11.0 prescribed Credits to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Overview This three-day continuing medical education program is designed for the primary care physician/provider, hospitalist, internal medicine physician, cardiovascular specialist, advanced practice provider, pharmacist, nurse, and all other physicians and healthcare professionals interested in the most recent advances and current established guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, stroke, and diseases or problems associated with heart disease. At the completion of this conference, attendees should be able to: Be able to list and explain three (3) screening tools to assess unhealthy alcohol and drug use. Identify clinical clues suggesting a diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis. Discuss why blood pressure guidelines need to focus more on implementation of recommendations for accurate diagnosis and strategies for improved control for patients being treated for hypertension. Gain a better understanding why the differential diagnosis and patient history is key to evaluating patients with syncope. Assess the accuracy and effectiveness of various tests and tools used in atrial fibrillation screening. Determine the appropriate diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. Develop and hone the evidence-based information presented for the assessment and treatment of patients who present as overweight or obese. Keynote Learning Objectives – TBD. Understand the role of screening for carotid disease in asymptomatic patients. Differentiate normal ECG from abnormal ECG in young adults. Identify current evidence-based approaches to address glucose management in individuals with diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Gain a better understanding of transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR) as an alternative therapy for a specific subset of patients with acute mitral valve regurgitation (MR). Breast Cancer Newly Diagnosed Orientation Class

Renown Institute for Cancer offers one-hour weekly classes to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and their families. Classes are facilitated by an oncology nurse navigator, social worker, and surgical nurses. In this class you will: • Meet your navigator and learn about cancer support services available to you • Hear about pre-surgery instructions and your pre-admit appointment • Receive education in prehabilitation and lymphedema prevention • Have your questions answered about treatment, including chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy and clinical trials Video enabled attendance is available. Patients can access remotely and join from any video-enabled device (smart phone, iPad, laptop or webcam/desktop). Upon registering, you will receive instructions on how to virtually connect. This 7 week childbirth preparation, which also includes preparing for postpartum, infant care and breastfeeding education, meets for seven consecutive weeks. This class will help prepare mom and her partner for the many aspects of childbirth and beyond. This class is designed to provide you with a great forum to ask lots of questions and to help you make informed decisions about key issues surrounding your baby’s birth. Weeks 1-5 will include topics such as: Healthy developments in your pregnancy Stages of labor Warning signs Breathing and relaxation techniques Comfort measures Role of the support person and labor support Birth planning How to tell when you are in labor Pain relief options during labor/medical procedures How a birth doula can help Cesarean birth Week 6: During the Newborn Care segment, newborn appearances and behavior, daily care of the newborn, signs of illness, and when to call the doctor will be covered. Tummy time, comfort and soothing techniques, how to keep your baby safe, newborn screenings and vaccinations will also be discussed. Week 7: You will learn breastfeeding benefits and techniques, the physiology of making milk, positioning and latch, how to know baby is getting enough milk, keeping up your milk supply, where to go for help, learn about our lactation consultants and breastfeeding forums. This class is for anyone who has undergone or is currently undergoing breast cancer treatment. The class focuses on educating patients on lymphedema and ways to reduce the risk of its occurrence. During the class, we will review the basic anatomy of the lymphatic system and describe common procedures performed during the treatment course for breast cancer that affects lymphatics. Prevention strategies, including compression sleeves, will be reviewed in addition to the typical presentation of early lymphedema. Additionally, a brief description of Axillary Web Syndrome will be reviewed, and basic stretches/exercises to implement if cording is present.
