Joint pain can affect all aspects of life, so if you’re considering total joint replacement surgery, these classes taught by the experts at Renown Health will help you with the following: Understand your procedure, including basic anatomy and explanation of surgical intervention. Prepare for surgery, including home setup, preoperative and pre-admit appointments. Know about your hospital stay, including infection prevention, early mobility, physical and occupational therapy, and adaptive equipment. Learn what happens after surgery, including recovery, medical management, post-operative therapy and exercises, to help you return to your normal activities. We highly encourage you to bring a “surgery buddy” for support.

Shelley Fisher of Reno Buddhist Center Find peace, healing and calm during the Mantras and Meditation practice session.  Participants will chant healing mantras and find some peace in their day with a short meditation. Employees, patients and their loved ones are invited and all levels of meditation practitioners are welcome. Rev. Shelley Fisher is a resident priest at the Reno Buddhist Center. She has been chanting and meditating for many years and is excited to share this beautiful practice with the wider community through Renown Health’s Spiritual Center. Would you please join us for Renown Health’s free one-hour virtual class for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) education? Our goal is to give you the knowledge to better manage your COPD by increasing your understanding of the disease process, medications and how to use them and creating an action plan you can use every day. This program is offered on the 4th Wednesday of each month and will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Upon registering, you will receive instructions on virtually connecting 1-2 days before the class.

This class helps prepare parents for emergencies that may occur in baby’s first year. Along with car seat safety and basic baby proofing, discussion will include prevention and treatment of common injuries. Students will also learn and practice the skills necessary to perform infant CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), as well as the skills necessary to assist a choking infant. The American Heart Association Family & Friends “Infant CPR and Choking” (birth to one year) course is for those who want to learn Infant CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. Grandparents and other caregivers are welcome to attend. This class covers the following topics: Car seat safety education Safe sleep Baby proofing your home Basic first aid Infant CPR & Choking Please Note: All attendees MUST wear an appropriate face mask for the duration of the class.

The role of grandparents over the last several generations has changed a great deal. This informative class outlines ways grandparents can offer support and assistance to a new family while discussing current birth practices and infant care trends. Grandparents will learn about newborn care, safe sleep environments, breastfeeding, car seats, product safety, how to help new parents and more.

Join us for our free virtual Smoking Cessation 4-week program courtesy of Renown Health. This class is available to all who want to learn the risks of smoking and the benefits of quitting. In addition, participants will learn about their triggers to smoking, ways to cope while quitting, and available products to assist with becoming tobacco-free. This program begins on the 1st Wednesday of each month and will meet every Wednesday for four weeks from 4 to 5 p.m. Upon registering, you will receive instructions on virtually connecting 1-2 days before the class.

Please note: This class is a 2 in 1 class that includes the Newborn Care Class and Breastfeeding Basics and Beyond. The morning portion of this class will include breastfeeding benefits and techniques, the physiology of making milk, positioning and latch, how to know baby is getting enough milk, keeping up your milk supply, where to go for help, learn about our lactation consultants and breastfeeding forums. Pump rentals and a visit to our Lactation Connection resource center are also included in this class. The afternoon segment of this class will cover newborn appearances and behavior, daily care of the newborn, signs of illness, and when to call the doctor. Tummy time, comfort and soothing techniques, how to keep your baby safe, newborn screenings and vaccinations will also be discussed. Partners are encouraged to attend. A 30 minute lunch break is included in this class. Please Note: All attendees must wear an appropriate face mask for the duration of the class. The American Heart Association Family & Friends “Infant CPR and Choking” (birth to one year) course is for those who want to learn infant CPR but do NOT need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment using the AHA’s research-proven “practice-while-watching” technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible. Please Note: All attendees must wear an appropriate face mask for the duration of the class.
