Renown Institute for Cancer offers one-hour weekly classes to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and their families. These insightful classes are facilitated by oncology nurse navigators, social workers, and surgical nurses. In this class, you will: • Meet your navigator and learn about cancer support services available to you • Hear about pre-surgery instructions and your pre-admit appointment • Receive education in rehabilitation and lymphedema • Have your questions answered about treatment, including chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy and clinical trials Note: 18y+ only. This class is not suitable for minors. Childcare is not provided. Video-enabled attendance is available. Patients can access remotely and join from any video-enabled device (smartphone, iPad, laptop or webcam/desktop). Upon registering, you will receive instructions on how to connect virtually.

Joint pain can affect all aspects of life, so if you’re considering total joint replacement surgery, these classes taught by the experts at Renown Health will help you with the following: Understand your procedure, including basic anatomy and explanation of surgical intervention. Prepare for surgery, including home setup, preoperative and pre-admit appointments. Know about your hospital stay, including infection prevention, early mobility, physical and occupational therapy, and adaptive equipment. Learn what happens after surgery, including recovery, medical management, post-operative therapy and exercises, to help you return to normal activities. We highly encourage you to bring a “surgery buddy” for support.

This class is for anyone who has undergone or is undergoing breast cancer treatment and will focus on lymphedema education and reducing the risk of its occurrence. During the class, we will review the basic anatomy of the lymphatic system and define common procedures performed during the treatment course for breast cancer that affects lymphatics. Risk reduction strategies, including compression sleeves, will be reviewed in addition to the typical presentation of early lymphedema. Finally, a brief description of Axillary Web Syndrome will also be reviewed, and basic stretches/exercises to implement if cording is present.

Ticket includes partner. The American Heart Association Family & Friends course is for those who want to learn infant & child CPR but do NOT need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment using the AHA’s research-proven “practice-while-watching” technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible.

The perfect place to start if you’re thinking about babysitting! After completion, you’ll have all the skills necessary to keep young children safe in case of an emergency and how to interview for a babysitting job. Designed for ages 11-15, this class will teach you how to change diapers, understand crib safety, bottle feeding basics, pediatric first aid, Infant/Child CPR, child development, and more. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion, not a traditional CPR card. Please pack a lunch, water & snacks or you can eat at our Sierra Café or Starbucks. Along with car seat safety and basic baby proofing, discussion will include prevention and treatment of common injuries. Students will also learn and practice the skills necessary to perform infant CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), as well as the skills necessary to assist a choking infant. The American Heart Association Family & Friends “Infant CPR and Choking” (birth to one year) course is for those who want to learn Infant CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. Grandparents and other caregivers are welcome to attend. This class is geared towards infants and toddlers and includes both Infant and Child CPR. This class covers the following topics: Car seat safety education Safe sleep Baby proofing your home Basic first aid Infant CPR & Choking Please note: There is a waiting list for this class.
