Joint pain can affect all aspects of life, so if you’re considering total joint replacement surgery, these classes taught by the experts at Renown Health will help you with the following: Understand your procedure, including basic anatomy and explanation of surgical intervention. Prepare for surgery, including home setup, preoperative and pre-admit appointments. Know about your hospital stay, including infection prevention, early mobility, physical and occupational therapy, and adaptive equipment. Learn what happens after surgery, including recovery, medical management, post-operative therapy and exercises, to help you return to your normal activities. We highly encourage you to bring a “surgery buddy” for support.

Facilitated by a prostate cancer survivor, this support group is designed to help men cope with prostate cancer by offering education and support for patients during their cancer journey. Renown Institute for Cancer offers one-hour weekly classes to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and their families. Classes are facilitated by an oncology nurse navigator, social worker, physical therapist and surgical nurses. In this class you will: • Meet your navigator and learn about cancer support services available to you • Hear about pre-surgery instructions and your pre-admit appointment • Receive education in prehabilitation and lymphedema prevention • Have your questions answered about treatment, including chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy and clinical trials Video enabled attendance is available. This support group is designed to provide support, education, networking and resource materials to caregivers who are coping with a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer. *Please note that this is a support group designed for Caregivers only. Video enabled attendance available. Patients can access remotely and join from any video-enabled device (smart phone, iPad, laptop, or webcam/desktop). Upon registering, you will receive instructions on how to virtually connect.

Join us for our free virtual Smoking Cessation 4-week program courtesy of Renown Health. This class is available to all who want to learn the risks of smoking and the benefits of quitting. In addition, participants will learn about their triggers to smoking, ways to cope while quitting, and available products to assist with becoming tobacco-free. This program begins on the 1st Wednesday of each month and will meet every Wednesday for four weeks from 4 to 5 p.m. Upon registering, you will receive instructions on virtually connecting 1-2 days before the class.

This group is for all patients facing cancer. The meeting enables participants to share experiences and express feelings and concerns. All cancer patients, family members, cancer survivors and caregivers are welcome to attend. Meets weekly on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. virtually. Video enabled attendance available. The Nevada Department of Wildlife is providing educational field trips throughout our diverse habitats for Sterling Silver Club members. Due to popular demand, we are hosting this guided nature walk at Oxbow Nature Study Area, located along the Truckee River. The nature trail is approximately one mile long, with plenty of opportunities to sit on benches and view wildlife within the Study Area’s 22 acres. RSVP required as space and parking is limited. Register on this page, or call 775-982-7787 for assistance. Attendees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Please wear sturdy shoes for the uneven surfaces and dirt path. No dogs allowed on this nature walk. This event is a part of Renown Health’s Sterling Silver Club, a free program offered for men and women ages 55 and over. Led by Renown’s Bariatric Program Manager, we connect you with peers and leaders so you can support, coach, encourage, and lean on one another when you might need it most. Whether you are facing post surgery challenges or if you are thinking about weight loss surgery and you want to learn more about the client’s perspective or help reluctant family and friends better understand the process, attending this support group meeting can be invaluable. This support group is an excellent resource where you’ll find people who share your goals of health and wellness.  We are devoted to people who have common experiences, who can share their feelings in a safe environment, and who develop relationships that can contribute to improved physical and emotional health. We’ve found that our most successful clients attend support groups regularly.
