Support groups create a private, safe and supportive environment (or community) and allow participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. They also educate and inform participants about dementia and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems. Designed for busy parents, this all-in-one-day Childbirth Education Course will help prepare mom and her partner for the many aspects of childbirth. You’ll learn the many facets of delivery, with the opportunity to ask questions helping you make informed decisions about critical issues surrounding your baby’s birth. Some topics include: Healthy developments in your pregnancy Stages of labor Warning signs Breathing and relaxation techniques Comfort measures Role of the support person and labor support Birth planning How to tell when you are in labor Pain relief options during labor/medical procedures How a birth doula can help Cesarean birth and Postpartum All of our instructors are certified educators who will offer you support and guidance through education in a unique way to meet your individual needs. We believe that childbirth is a process, not a method, and we recognize that there is no one right way to give birth. * Note: This class will not include a Baby and Family Suites Tour. Renown Spiritual Center offers free weekly yoga classes at home for Sterling Silver Club members or anyone on their wellness journey. Lead by mother-daughter duo Liz and Cadye; you’ll discover the benefits of yoga, such as improved mobility, balance, strength, and mood, with modified movements for all abilities. Dr. Joseph D’Angelo, has been an advocate for the disadvantaged and those in need since 1989. Ordained in 1993 as a nondenominational minister, he is the founder and President of Living Water Ministries (dba Joshua’s Community) since 1995, whose mission and purpose is to take care of people of all ages, ethnicities and those in need throughout the United States and the world. Today, Joshua’s Community has helped thousands of individuals globally and in the US, from all ages and careers, with two orphanages currently underway. He has served as a Hospice Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator for the past six years in Reno, Nevada. His current goal is to help those suffering through grief in partnership with the Renown Health Spiritual Center, as well as to offer his services as a volunteer chaplain to the Spiritual Care department. The Nevada Department of Wildlife is providing educational field trips throughout our diverse habitats for Sterling Silver Club members. Due to popular demand, we are hosting this guided nature walk at Oxbow Nature Study Area, located along the Truckee River. The nature trail is approximately one mile long, with plenty of opportunities to sit on benches and view wildlife within the Study Area’s 22 acres. RSVP required as space and parking is limited. This 7 week childbirth preparation, which also includes preparing for postpartum, infant care and breastfeeding education, meets for seven consecutive weeks.  This class will help prepare mom and her partner for the many aspects of childbirth and beyond.  This class is designed to provide you with a great forum to ask lots of questions and to help you make informed decisions about key issues surrounding your baby’s birth. Weeks 1-5 will include topics such as: Healthy developments in your pregnancy Stages of labor Warning signs Breathing and relaxation techniques Comfort measures Role of the support person and labor support Birth planning How to tell when you are in labor Pain relief options during labor/medical procedures How a birth doula can help Cesarean birth Week 6: During the Newborn Care segment, newborn appearances and behavior, daily care of the newborn, signs of illness, and when to call the doctor will be covered.  Tummy time, comfort and soothing techniques, how to keep your baby safe, newborn screenings and vaccinations will also be discussed. Week 7:  You will learn breastfeeding benefits and techniques, the physiology of making milk, positioning and latch, how to know baby is getting enough milk, keeping up your milk supply, where to go for help, learn about our lactation consultants and breastfeeding forums.  Pump rentals, and a visit to our Lactation Connection resource center is also included in this class. Meet our newest yoga instructor for our Wednesday Wellness Yoga series, Lee Ann Maynard who is teaching Sterling Silver Club members Gentle Chair Yoga every 2nd and 4th Wednesday from 4-5 p.m.. Experience the benefits of yoga without having to get onto the floor. This class is held virtual or in-person (limited space), and is perfect for those with limited mobility due to injury, recovery from surgery, arthritis, general stiffness and more. By incorporating gentle movement, breathing exercises and meditation techniques, you can build strength and flexibility. No yoga experience is necessary. Students will only need a stable chair (no wheels or armrests) if practicing from home. Chairs are provided for in-person attendees. RSVP required. This class helps prepare parents for emergencies that may occur in baby’s first year. Along with car seat safety and basic baby proofing, discussion will include prevention and treatment of common injuries. Students will also learn and practice the skills necessary to perform infant CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), as well as the skills necessary to assist a choking infant. The American Heart Association Family & Friends “Infant CPR and Choking” (birth to one year) course is for those who want to learn Infant CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. Grandparents and other caregivers are welcome to attend. This class covers the following topics: Car seat safety education Safe sleep Baby proofing your home Basic first aid Infant CPR & Choking Please Note: All attendees MUST wear an appropriate face mask for the duration of the class.
