- Renown Regional Medical Center – Spiritual Center
- Free
With Renown Health Prayer Partners Every Friday ◦ 9:30 – 9:45 AM Estelle J. Kelsey Interfaith Sanctuary ◦ Renown Regional Medical Center Facilitated by: Spiritual Care Team The importance of your prayers and reflections for those in need cannot be overemphasized. We continue to send out prayer requests from patients and family as they are received by email to the Renown Health Prayer Partners. Every Friday, the Spiritual Care team leads a brief devotional for prayers and intercessions for those who have requested support. All the prayer partners are invited to participate! While we use the word “prayer” for the custom of interceding on behalf of others for their health, please know that participation is not restricted to any one faith or tradition or to any one manner or method. Each person, according to their own personal belief or practice, may be part of the process of sharing words and thoughts as they ask for healing. Prayer, mediation, reflection, contemplation, recitation, chanting, reading — these and more – are all ways to intercede. Joining the Devotional: You are now able to attend in-person and no RSVP is required to attend. For directions to the Interfaith Sanctuary, please use the following link Campus and Parking Maps | Renown Health click on the “Renown Regional Medical Center Visitor Guide” to download the PDF map. Roman Catholic Mass
- 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM
- Renown Regional Medical Center – Spiritual Center
- Free
Presiding: Father Joseph Infante, St. Therese Church of the Little Flower Estelle J. Kelsey Interfaith Sanctuary – Spiritual Center ◦ Renown Regional Medical Center This service is currently being offered on the first Friday of each month from 1:30-2:00 p.m., in English only. For Catholics, the Mass is a memorial of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection. It is a sacrifice of thanksgiving to God, a blessing by which the Church expresses its gratitude to God for all God’s beneficence. In the Mass, the bread and wine become the “Body and Blood of Christ” — food for the body and the soul. By celebrating the Holy Eucharist on the first Friday of the month, the Catholic Community offers a blessing to remind Catholics of God’s continual and abiding presence in sickness, health, joy and pain. “God is always with us. God comes to be with us, and we come to be with God in the Holy Mass. God meets us where we are, and God is present in the bread and wine, in the scripture we read and hear, and in the community gathered together. Through the Holy Mass, we become one body, one family, one community. First Friday devotion aims to honor and recognize the Sacred Heart of Jesus, whose love of humanity is rich, genuine, holy, and everlasting.” – Fr. Joseph Joining the Service: You are now able to attend in-person and no RSVP is required to attend. For directions to the Interfaith Sanctuary, please use the following link Campus and Parking Maps | Renown Health click on the “Renown Regional Medical Center Visitor Guide” to download the PDF map. Artown Cultural Connections: Monobloco
- 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
- Wingfield Park
- Free
The Sterling Silver Club and Artown are partnering up for it’s Cultural Connections concert series. Club members and their guest will get to choose from one concert of choice (July 6, 13, 20 or 27). Join us in a roped-off area at Wingfield Park, providing a fun night of music and cultural connections. Please choose from only one of the concerts to allow all members to participate in our Artown concert series. RSVP required. Members must bring their own low-back chair. Artown’s July 6 concert: Monobloco – Brazilian Carnival drumming and percussion Gate/Door Opens: 5 p.m. Concert time: 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monobloco is a Brazilian “bloco”, or street band, that plays during Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro and is also a professional touring show. Unlike most of Rio’s blocos, which tend to play one type of music (typically samba), Monobloco has become extremely popular among younger people because of its ‘fresh’ sound, playing a mix of various rhythms such as coco, ciranda, marchinha, xote, samba, contemporary R&B, and particularly samba-rock and funk. It continues to grow in popularity each year and can be seen as a symbol of the resurging popularity in Carnaval blocos in Rio de Janeiro. The group was formed by members of rock band Pedro Luís e A Parede in 2000 as an education project and continues to run a percussion course each year. However, the group’s popularity soon led to the creation of a professional touring band, the Monobloco Show, which has toured extensively around Brazil and has also travelled internationally. Artown’s July 13 concert: Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East Gate/Door Opens: 5 p.m. Concert time: 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East (Smithsonian Folkways 2020) encompasses myriad facets of Jain’s identity both as a first-generation South Asian–American and as a global musician, from his own family’s immigration story to his eclectic musical upbringing. In recasting the immigrant—steeped in the courage to leave a familiar homeland for a new beginning—as the modern-day cowboy and cowgirl, Jain sources musical inspiration from the scores of Bollywood classics and Spaghetti Westerns, Punjabi folk traditions, jazz improvisation, and rollicking psychedelic and surf guitar styles. Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East is rooted in the contemporary global soundscape, singing in a new voice, “I am large, I contain multitudes.” The beating heart of the vibrant and varied career of composer/drummer Sunny Jain is a celebration of cultural diaspora: deep-rooted tradition that ripples outward, changing – and being changed by – the cultures that it touches. Jain deftly blends the modern and the traditional, the personal and the communal, the inventive and the festive. He’s most known for founding the band Red Baraat, a frenzied fusion of bhangra, hip-hop, jazz, rock, and sheer, unbridled energy that NPR has called “the best party band in years.” Watch Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East here: https://youtu.be/jxFgHKGrqQo
