Anthony Slonim, MD, DrPH

President and Chief Executive Officer, Renown Health

Slonim-Anthony-Web-ReadyDr. Slonim brings over 15 years of executive healthcare leadership experience, in addition to being a physician, professor, author and fellow. Most recently, Dr. Slonim served as the executive vice president and chief medical officer for Barnabas Health in West Orange, N.J., overseeing all initiatives supporting the delivery of exceptional patient care including clinical care areas, accountable care initiatives and information technologies.

Dr. Slonim is on the forefront of healthcare innovation and has shaped the future of medicine for more than a decade. He is a fellow of the American College of Physician Executives and the College of Critical Care Medicine. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine Critical Care and Pediatric Critical Care and holds faculty appointments at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, the Jefferson College of Nursing and Health, and is a tenured professor of Basic Sciences, Medicine and Pediatrics at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He also holds a master's degree and a doctorate in Administrative Medicine and Health Policy from George Washington University School of Public Health.

Dr. Slonim, who goes by Tony, has volunteered for the New Jersey Special Olympics Committee since 1992 and has been active in his community. He is board chair of the not-for-profit CMR Institute which offers expert healthcare training programs to more than 12,000 professionals annually and 75 healthcare companies nationwide. Outside of work, Dr. Slonim enjoys maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He avidly enjoys bicycling, eating healthy and cooking.

Dawn D. Ahner, MBA, CPA, FACHE

Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Renown Health

Dawn Ahner - Chief Financial Officer, Renown HealthDawn D. Ahner, MBA, CPA, FACHE, is Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Renown with responsibilities for all shared non-clinical service areas across the Renown health network including Finance, Revenue Cycle, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications, Community Benefit Services, Information Technology, Environmental Services, Security, Real Estate Services, and Strategic Planning and Business Development. In addition, Dawn oversees Renown’s transitional services division which covers the range of Renown’s post-acute continuum of care with hospice, palliative care, home care, and Renown Rehabilitation hospital.

Dawn’s divisions include responsibility for more than 1,000 employees. Dawn has had a 22 year career with Renown and was the executive responsible for driving a LEAN culture in the organization.

She trained in Japan and at Virginia Mason Health Care System before introducing the program to the organization in 2010.

Max Coppes, MD, PhD, MBA

Executive Vice President, Chief Medical and Academic Officer

Coppes-Max-Web-ReadyMax Coppes, MD, PhD, MBA, came to Reno from the British Columbia Cancer Agency in Vancouver where he served as president with responsibility for six regional cancer centers and two cancer research centers.

He was an attending physician at BC Children’s Hospital, an adjunct professor of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, and a professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia.

During his career, Dr. Coppes served as Senior Vice President at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and held positions at several prestigious facilities in the U.S. and Canada including The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Georgetown University, The National Cancer Institute, and the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Coppes is responsible for medical staff relations including the independent medical staff at all Renown acute care facilities, Renown’s employed medical group and network services, and Renown’s newly evolving relationship with the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

Sy Johnson, MBA

Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer

Sy-Johnson-leadershipSy came to Reno from PeaceHealth in Vancouver, Wash. where he served as Chief Executive Officer for the Columbia network. In his role at Renown Health, Johnson oversees operations at Renown Regional Medical Center, Renown South Meadows Medical Center, Renown’s network services including service lines. He also overseas Hometown Health, Renown Health’s insurance division.

A national award-winning senior executive with over 20 years of healthcare experience, Sy has a solid background in strategic, operational and financial business planning; physician relationships and clinical integration; as well as a keen focus on quality and patient service enhancement.

Linda Ash-Jackson, MD

Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Hometown Health

Ash-Jackson1-Web-ReadyDr. Ash-Jackson has more than 30 years experience in healthcare leadership and has been with Renown since 2005.

In her role as CMO for Hometown Health, Dr. Ash-Jackson is responsible for facilitating patient care and interacting with physicians to ensure the highest quality outcomes are achieved. She oversees the quality management, case management, and utilization review programs. She actively pursues the highest standards within the industry.

Dr. Ash-Jackson earned a medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia with distinction. She served her residency in internal medicine at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, where she was a Clinical Fellow at Harvard University School of Medicine.

Stephen Bajo, MD

Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Renown Medical Group

Bajo-Stephen-Web-ReadyDr. Bajo is board certified in internal medicine and anti-aging medicine and has been practicing in the Reno area since 1981.

Dr. Bajo provides strategic direction and oversight to Renown’s multi-specialty physician group practice. A key focus of his role is driving collaboration between employed and independent physicians.

Dr. Bajo also manages Renown’s Patient-Centered Medical Homes and Hospitalist programs.

In total, Dr. Bajo oversees more than 25 Medical Group locations and over 200 medical providers.

Dr. Bajo received his medical degree from the University of Southern California and completed his residency at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.

Mark Behl, MHA, MBA

Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Renown Medical Group

Behl-Mark-web-readyMark is responsible for smooth and efficient operations of Renown Medical Group and works to develop and foster effective collaboration between clinic operations, divisions, medical leadership and other affiliated services.

He has been with Renown since 2009 and has helped Renown achieve superb experience with patients. He has lived in Reno for more than 40 years and spends his free time being a dad to his three children, all of whom were born and raised in Reno.

Mark earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from Seton Hall University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Chris Bosse, CPA

Vice President of Government Relations, Renown Health

Chris-Bosse-1Chris Bosse has worked in healthcare and for Renown Health for 23 years. Chris currently serves as the VP of Government Relations for Renown Health and her responsibilities include strategic input and direction for developing and leading government relations and related community relations for Renown. In addition, she is responsible for educating federal and state legislators, government and community leaders about healthcare and what issues put Renown’s safety net services at risk.

Prior to her role in government relations her roles focused primarily in Finance and ranged in scope from financial projects to Vice President of Finance for Renown Regional Medical Center, at that time, a 538 bed level II trauma center, and Vice President of Financial Operations for Renown’s Integrated Health Network which included traditional financial responsibilities such as financial reporting, budgeting, etc. to more healthcare industry specific responsibilities such as reimbursement, business office, medical records, admitting, social services, case management, etc.

Chris is a Certified Public Accountant and prior to joining Renown, she worked for Ernst and Young. She serves on the Board of the following organizations: Nevada Hospital Association, HealthInsight Nevada, HealthInsight Management Corporation, HealtHIE Nevada, Access to Healthcare Network, The Chamber and Northern Nevada HOPES.

Greg Boyer, MHA

Senior Vice President, Chief Executive Officer of Acute Services

Greg Boyer - Chief Executive Officer, Renown Regional Medical Center

Greg Boyer joined Renown Health as the Chief Executive Officer of Renown Regional Medical Center on June 1, 2010. He brings a successful leadership record of fostering strong organizational teams, building programs and services and developing collaborative physician relationships.

Greg earned a Master of Hospital Administration Degree from The George Washington University in Washington D.C. Prior to his position with Renown, Greg served as a CEO for a number of years at hospitals in Florida and most recently served as CEO at the 400-bed Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas from 2000 until 2010.

Born in Somerset, Pennsylvania, Greg moved to Florida to complete his residency in hospital administration at Cedars Medical Center in Miami. In 1989, he joined Universal Health Services, Inc (UHS) as Chief Operating Officer at Universal Medical Center in Plantation, Florida. He became CEO in 1991 and spent 20 years with UHS before joining Renown.

Greg’s volunteer service includes the boards of United Way (Chair), Nevada Hospital Association (Past Chair), The Chamber and REMSA (Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority), the local not-for-profit air and ground ambulance company. In addition he serves on the Community Advisory Board for Meadows Bank.

Greg and his wife, Laurie, who have two adult children and a granddaughter currently living in Florida, enjoy playing golf and traveling in their spare time.

Dan Caldwell, MBA, CMPE

Chief Operating Officer, Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health

Caldwell-Dan-web-readyDan joined Renown in 2013 and has more than 15 years healthcare leadership experience and is responsible for key areas of patient experience, operations, quality, financial performance and business development for Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health.

Prior to Renown, he was the Senior Vice President of Business Development at the Arkansas Heart Hospital as well as the Executive Director at the Little Rock Cardiology Clinic.

Dan’s leadership is well documented as he was the President and on the Board for the Cardiology Advocacy Alliance. He is also a Certified Medical Practice Executive by the American College of Medical Practice Executives.

Dan received his Master of Business Administration at the University of Houston and a Bachelor’s from Harding University.

Cora Case, CMA, CHC, CHFP, MBA

Vice President of Operations and Chief Financial Officer

She is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and is Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC).

Cora started at Renown in the business office in 1996. She has held various roles including the Chief Financial Officer at Renown Regional Medical Center and South Meadows Medical Center for post-acute services.

Prior to that, she was the Director of Finance at the University of Nevada School of medicine.

Cora is pursuing a PhD in Health Policy and Administration from Walden University. She received her Master of Business Administration for California Coast University.

Jo Duszkiewicz, MSA

Vice President and Administrator, Renown Institute for Cancer

Duszkiewicz-Jo-Web-ReadyJo has extensive clinical and executive leadership experience in healthcare and is responsible for the Renown Institute for Cancer.

At Renown, Jo oversees strategic initiatives for cancer services for the great region that Renown serves.  Those areas include cancer prevention, screening & diagnosis, care delivery, survivorship and palliative care.  Her knowledge in collaborative and coordinated care systems brings a fresh look to Renown’s Institute for Cancer, where she works with other leaders and mentors them to reach their potential.

Jo joined Renown in 2015 from Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana where she served as the Administrative Director for the Cancer and Gastrointestinal Service Lines. Her responsibilities included the design and build of a 50,000 square-foot comprehensive cancer center, assuring cancer and GI outreach services and collaborating efforts with other regional cancer programs.

In addition, she was the administrative lead for the National Cancer Institute’s Community Cancer Centers Program, a 7-year NCI project. She served on the Montana State Advisory Task Force addressing insurance coverage for patients on cancer clinical trials.

Jo is a graduate from the University of Michigan in Dearborn, Michigan where she earned a Bachelor’s degree and Madonna University where she earned Master of Science in Administration.

Phyllis Freyer, MHA

Vice President, Marketing & Communications, Renown Health

Phyllis Freyer - Vice President, Renown HealthPhyllis has 33 years of experience in healthcare and insurance including more than 10 years with Renown. She is currently a system Vice President with responsibility for Marketing, Internal and External Communications, and Retail Operations.

Prior to joining Renown, Phyllis held executive roles in various healthcare and insurance businesses including serving as Interim CEO of a $200M health plan. She has also served as a C-suite-level consultant working on strategic initiatives, a Vice President for a national insurance company and was one of a small team of negotiators to help a health care client commercialize disease management platforms — proving critical dollars to allow them to continue to invest in patient care. She lead the highly successful multi-year project to change Renown’s name in 2006.

Phyllis is active in the community and has served on the EDAWN Board and Executive Committee, the Nevada Women’s Fund Board and is past Chairman of the WIN Board of Directors. She has chaired numerous large community events including the American Heart Association Go Red luncheon and the 2012 WIN Lecture Series dinner.

Phyllis was honored in 2007 as a Nevada Women’s Fund Woman of Achievement and the American Marketing Association Marketer of the Year. She was a 2011 Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada Women in Leadership honoree and the 2012 A2N2 Thomas C. Wilson Lifetime Achievement Award winner. In 2013, Phyllis was accepted into the Nevada Chapter of the International Women’s Forum which is a worldwide forum of preeminent women of significant and diverse achievement.

Phyllis enjoys traveling with her husband of more than 30 years and has two adult children.

Ron Fuschillo, MBA

Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Ron oversees Renown’s information technology team and focuses on improving patient care with the adoption of technologies. He is responsible for the planning, implementation and supporting the computerized information systems and communication systems throughout the health network. He is an active member on several boards including chairing the Toshiba Image Technology Review Board, which provides industry knowledge and experiences to enhance future technology offerings.

Ron has been a VP and CIO at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey as well as Rutland Regional Medical Center in Vermont. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Central Connecticut State University, as well as a Master of Business Administration from the University of Hartford in Connecticut.

Christos Galanopoulos, MD, MS, FACS

Vice President, Renown Health and Chief Clinical Officer, Renown Institute for Cancer

Galanopoulos-Christos1-Web-ReadyDr. Galanopoulos is a practicing surgeon who is also a Vice President for Renown Health, Chief Clinical Officer for Renown Institute for Cancer, and a member of the Senior Management team at Renown Health. He has more than 20 years experience in the medical field and healthcare leadership.

His role is to use his unique skill set as a clinician in combination with his business education to help deliver the best possible cancer care for the region.

Dr. Galanopoulos earned a Masters degree in Health Economics, Policy, and Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Doctor of Medicine from Rush University, and a Bachelor of Science and Biology from Loyola University Chicago. He is presently completing his MBA at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.

Kirk Gillis

Vice President of Accountable Care, Renown Health

Kirk-Gillis-2Kirk has been an innovator in the insurance services and healthcare industry for more than 35 years, including executive responsibilities with insurance claims administration and technology companies, and senior leadership roles with national managed care organizations. He joined Renown Health in 2007 tasked to build northern Nevada’s largest occupational health and medicine program for workers compensation clients. Kirk currently oversees Renown’s TeleHealth program and Renown Accountable Care.

Kirk has already served multiple terms as Board President of the Northern Nevada Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), and was recently recognized by Nevada Business Magazine as the 2013 Healthcare Hero Honoree in the Innovation category.

Although born and raised in southern California, Kirk and his wife raised four children in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

Christopher M. Kozlowski, MD, MHA

Vice President, Medical Director of Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health

Kozlowski-Chris-web-readyDr. Kozlowski is board certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease and has been serving patients for more than 25 years.

With Renown, Dr. Kozlowski is engaged in strategic planning, business development, quality/performanc

e improvement, technology assessment and value analysis for the Institute.

He’s also the Medical Director for Renown’s CV program, leads the clinical quality function for cardiovascular care and is the leader for employed cardiologists.

Previously, Dr. Kozlowski was the Associate Medical Director and Dyad Manager at Overlake Medical Clinics in Bellevue, Wash. Prior to that, he was the Chief of Staff and Interventional Cardiologist at Snowqualmie Valley Hospital in Snowqualmie, Wash., as well as a major in the United States Army Medical Corps.

Dr. Kozlowski earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Washington. He completed his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colo., and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology as well as the American Society of Angiography and Intervention.

Melinda Montoya, JD, CPC, CHC, CHPC

Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer

Montoya-Melinda-web-readyMelinda is responsible for providing direction and oversight of the Renown Health Corporate Compliance and Internal Audit Program.

Melinda identifies risks and ensures that Renown adheres to a strong code of ethics, principals and policies. Melinda also is the driver of education for employees, board members and physicians on the importance of corporate compliance in the workplace.

Melinda came to Renown with more than a decade of work experience at the University of Arizona Health Network in Tucson, where she began her career as a corporate compliance officer and eventually was named associate general counsel.

She has a Juris Doctorate and a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, both from the University of Arizona. She also is certified in both procedural code and healthcare compliance.

“I arrived to Renown in October 2014 with the goal of implementing and sustaining a comprehensive and top-notch Compliance Program. I have confidence this goal will be accomplished with Renown’s caring providers and staff, talented leadership team and dedicated board members. Joel Muller, CFRE

Vice President, Renown Health Foundation

Joel-Muller-2As a Certified Fund Raising Executive with 15 years of hospital development experience, Joel and his team at Renown Health Foundation work to build partnerships that elevate healthcare for our community.

The Foundation and its supporters have funded marvelous projects at Renown, including the William N. Pennington Nursery, the Wilbur D. May Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the John and Sue Dermody Children’s Healing Garden and the David and Judy Hess Children’s Imaging Center. Community philanthropy also fuels efforts in nursing education, medical technology, healing arts and patient assistance.

When he's not working with Renown's family of donors and volunteers, Joel can be found training in the martial arts or serving the community as the Reno-Sparks Area Governor for Rotary International. He is past president of three local boards, teaches development classes at the University of Nevada, and was named AFP’s Outstanding Fundraising Professional in 2010.

Jen Richards, PhD, RN, CNRN

Vice President of Quality, Renown Health

Richards-Jen-web-readyJen has been with Renown since 1999 and oversees quality throughout the Renown Health system.

Her areas of responsibility include regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, patient safety, risk management, environmental safety, infection control and process improvement.

Jen started at Renown as a nurse for neurosciences. She has also been a nurse educator, clinical nurse specialist, director of Nursing Education, and the director of Transformational Health Care, a method that puts the patient at the center of care and staff at the center of the improvement process.

She attended the University of Nevada, Reno and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees as well as and her post-master certificate as a nurse educator. In 2009, she earned her doctorate in nursing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

“Right now there is a lot of awesome work going on within the individual entities, now we need to pull it all together and create an overarching approach to quality, outcomes and experience for patients. That is what I’m most excited about.”

Dennis Rochier, MD, MHA

Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Acute Services

Rochier-Dennis-Web-ReadyDr. Rochier has more than 20 years experience in medical and healthcare leadership and is an active voice for healthcare delivery to patients.

His duties are to provide leadership for acute care facilities at Renown Regional Medical Center and South Meadows Medical Center.

He also works with clinical leaders in the pharmacy, lab services, x-ray and imaging to improve the quality of services.

Dr. Rochier received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas.

He received his Master of Health Administration from the University of Washington.

“Having been in healthcare since 1977, I’ve seen many different facets of healthcare. I’ve reached a point in my career where I think physicians need to step up, take leadership roles and focus on impact, rather than income. My role is to see that happen.”

Houeida Saad, JD, MA, RN

Vice President and General Counsel, Renown Health

Saad-Houeida1-Web-ReadyHoueida is an experienced healthcare attorney with a background on the provider and payor side of healthcare. She has a strong background in healthcare including managed care, risk management, contracting, compliance, research and labor & employment matters. In her role as General Counsel for Renown Health, she will oversee all aspects of Renown’s legal affairs and partner with the business team to help them achieve their corporate goals.

Prior to coming to Renown, Houeida was Assistant Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Inova Health System, a health system with five acute care hospitals and many outpatient facilities as well as commercial and government insurance plans making it one of the largest integrated health systems in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Houeida has a strong background in community service and Pro Bono work. She was awarded the District of Columbia Bar’s Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award (2000), and the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award for The National Law Journal (2000).

Houeida is a Registered Nurse with a background in critical care nursing with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. She has a dual degree in Law & International Affairs from The American University, Washington College of Law and School of International Service in Washington, D.C.

Houeida enjoys the outdoors including hiking and biking.

Michelle Sanchez-Bickley, MS

Vice President of Human Resources, Renown Health

Michelle Sanchez-Bickley - Vice President Human Resources, Renown HealthMichelle joined Renown Health in 2002 and has been the vice president of Human Resources since 2008. She has more than 19 years of HR leadership experience and 10 years have been in healthcare.

With a bachelor's degree in political science and justice studies from Frostburg State University in Maryland, Michelle earned her master's degree in human resource development from Georgia State University in Georgia. Michelle’s involvement with the community includes serving on the executive board of Nevada works and the executive board of the Education Alliance. Having lived in other areas of the country, she is proud to call Reno home.

Bethany Sexton, MBA

Vice President of Revenue Cycle

Sexton-Bethany-Web-ReadyBethany is responsible for designing, facilitating and implementing processes to ensure that hospital reimbursements are handled properly for all services provided in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements and laws.

Bethany has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Management from Western Washington University.

Bethany has been a revenue cycle leader for 10 years and has previously led her teams to national recognition for top performance in revenue cycle.

She worked at Renown previously from 2004-08.

Jeff Stout, MSN, RN, NEA-BC

Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Renown Regional Medical Center

Jeff-StoutJeff has been with Renown since 2008 as a Chief Nursing Officer and provides leadership to deliver quality nursing care to patients.

He is responsible for planning, organizing and directing services within Renown Regional Medical Center and certain Renown Health affiliated departments.

Jeff was key in Renown earning the prestigious Pathway to Excellence designation in 2012. The designation was for Renown Regional Medical Center and South Meadows Medical Center.

He received a Masters in Healthcare Administration Management from Queens University of Charlotte.

Janette Townsend, CPA

Vice President and Corporate Chief Financial Officer

Janette started at Renown Health in 2009 and has worked in finance departments of non-profit hospitals and health networks since 2000.

With Renown, she oversees budget, accounting, tax, treasury, payroll, accounts payable and reimbursement functions.

Janette graduated from Oregon State University in 1997 with a degree in accounting.

Prior to Renown Health, she worked at Salem Hospital in Salem, Ore.

She also worked in Portland at Oregon Health Sciences University and Providence Health and Services.

Larry Trilops, MBA

Senior Vice President and CEO of Network Development

Larry Trilops - Senior Vice President and CEO of Network DevelopmentLarry brings more than 18 years of healthcare experience to Renown Health. He has worked in various roles at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas and at Valley Hospital and University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his current position, Larry oversees Renown Medical Group, which now employs more than 250 providers in various settings throughout our integrated health network. Additionally, he oversees Renown’s outpatient X-Ray & Imaging. He also has responsibility for two of our community benefit programs, The Healthcare Center and The Pregnancy Center.

In his spare time, Larry enjoys traveling, cooking and fishing and is a die-hard college football fan. He has also been a member of the CARE Chest board for several years and currently serves as President of the Board of Directors.

Ty Windfeldt, MBA

Vice President, Hometown Health

Ty Windfeldt - Vice President, Hometown HealthTy is the Vice President of Hometown Health, the insurance division of Renown Health. In this role, Ty oversees all aspects of Hometown Health, the region’s largest and most experienced health-insurance company servicing more than 100,000 people. In addition Ty works directly with other Renown Health entities to develop products and strategies to fulfill Renown Health’s purpose.

Ty joined Renown Health in 1995 upon graduation from University of Nevada, Reno. Over the past 19 years he has held several positions within the company, most recently serving as Vice President for Business Development. Ty has received several local business and civic awards and recognitions, including the University of Nevada Distinguished Alumni Award and the Top 20 under 40 leadership list by the Reno Gazette Journal/Young Professionals Network.

Ty serves on the boards of the University of Nevada Alumni Council, Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, Sierra Medical Services Alliance, Builders Association of Northern Nevada and Access to Healthcare Network. As a native Nevadan, Ty enjoys the outdoor activities the region offers and is an avid University of Nevada Wolf Pack fan.
