Position Purpose

This is a clinical position that works within a collaborative process to assess, plan, implement, coordinate, monitor and evaluate options of care in addition to providing optimal patient care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of the nursing process. The incumbent is accountable for individualized patient outcomes over an entire perioperative episode of care.

The incumbent provides comprehensive nursing services to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, including their families/caregivers.

Nature and Scope

This position is challenged to diagnose and treat human responses to health problems. The incumbent must provide optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and families. Demonstrates the cognitive and psychosocial needs specific to the population to be served and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards.

Pre Admission nursing starts in the pre-acute phase and continues through the acute phase. Pre Admission begins with the assessment of pre-morbid health status, current medical conditions, surgical conditions, and post-acute needs. The Pre Admission RN works closely with the Case Manager to ensure services to be delivered will be done at the most appropriate level of care to meet the patient’s needs. The Pre Admission RN will document the progress of the plan of care and make necessary revisions to ensure a smooth transition through the surgery continuum.

This position requires a scientific knowledge base and ongoing growth and learning. When possible the family or those significant to the family are considered as part of the assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation efforts of the Pre Admission RN. The RN coordinates care between other professionals as needed.

This position requires intensive continuous mental effort is required to provide optimal safe patient care and the same mental effort is required when interacting with internal and external contacts, exercising judgments and making decisions.

This position requires excellent documentation and communication skills, must use critical thinking, find solutions quickly, and escalate appropriately. In addition, the Pre Admission RN must identify clinically complex cases to be worked up and referred if necessary for anticipated discharge needs to ensure patient remains in appropriate level of care throughout the surgical continuum, including preventable admissions.

This position will use clinical protocols to facilitate patient referral to appropriate specialists for diagnosis, treatment, and optimization while providing support and counseling to the patient and their family as appropriate to the clinical situation.

This position will assist with the development of evidence-based protocols and may accomplish this work through collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals.

This position does provide patient care.

Description
Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Appropriate education to obtain and maintain Registered Nursing licensure in the State of Nevada.
Experience:
Minimum two years’ experience in acute setting, critical care and surgical preferred.
License(s):
Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.
Certification(s):
Current BLS certification by The American Heart Association standards.
Computer / Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word. Must have the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
