Position Purpose
The position of neurologist is pivotal in providing specialized medical care for patients with disorders of the nervous system. The primary purpose is to conduct thorough evaluations, diagnose neurological conditions, and implement evidence-based treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes. As a neurologist, the incumbent collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, engages in continuous education, teaches medical students/residents, and contributes to the advancement of neurological knowledge and patient care practices.
Nature and Scope
As a neurologist, the incumbent is responsible for providing comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of neurological conditions affecting adult patients. This includes, but is not limited to neurodegenerative diseases, movement disorders, epilepsy, cerebrovascular diseases, neuroinflammatory conditions, neuromuscular disorders, and headache syndromes. Neurologists conduct thorough neurological assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, develop individualized treatment plans, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care.
A neurologist with subspecialty training in epilepsy brings additional expertise for in-depth evaluation and treatment of patients living with epilepsy, interpretation/report generation of related diagnostic modalities, including, but not limited to, standard EEG, ambulatory EEG, long-term inpatient EEG monitoring (LTM/cEEG), and EMU evaluations. The incumbent must have an ability to understand and interpret complex imaging techniques related to epilepsy evaluation and treatment. They contribute specialized knowledge to interdisciplinary care teams, participate in subspecialty-specific research endeavors, and may provide consultation services to other healthcare providers.
Neurologists with sub-specialty training in epilepsy adhere to the highest standards of patient-centered care, professional integrity, and ethical practice. They engage in continuous education, quality improvement initiatives, teaching, and scholarly activities to enhance patient outcomes and advance the field of neurology.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Board Certification: ABPN Certification in neurology/ABPN Board Eligible.
2. Medical Degree: M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school.
3. Residency Training: Completion of accredited neurology residency.
4. Subspecialty training: Epilepsy fellowship and/or substantial clinical experience in epilepsy subspecialty. The incumbent should be Board Eligible/Board Certified Epilepsy, unless the subspecialty expertise is based on substantial clinical experience, as determined by the Section Chief/Department Chair.
5. Clinical Experience: Demonstrated competence in neurological evaluation and management.
6. Diagnostic Skills: Proficient in interpreting diagnostic tests.
7. Communication Skills: Excellent communication with patients and teams.
8. Patient-Centered Care: Commitment to compassionate care.
9. Continuous Education: Lifelong learning and professional development.

Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required. Preferred to possess and maintain State of California Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license (to provide telehealth services, if necessary). |
Certification(s): | Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in Neurology through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). If Provider is Board Eligible at time of hire, Board Certification(s) must be obtained within two (2) years of employment. If the incumbent is Epilepsy Board Eligible at the time of hire, Epilepsy Board Certification must be obtained within 2 years from the hire date, unless subspecialty expertise is based on substantial clinical experience, as determined by the Section Chief/Department Chair. Life Support Requirements for Physician(s) in org 510701 (providing in-person, direct patient care): Basic Life Support (BLS) AND Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute. Computer / Typing: | Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. |
