Position Purpose

This position is accountable for directing, coordinating, and providing Child Life services to pediatric patients, adolescent and young adult patients on other units, and children of patients at Renown Regional Medical Center, and the general functioning of the Child Life team. This position will also facilitate and/or participate in events that promote education for children and families in the community.

Nature and Scope

Child Life programming is based on an understanding of normal human development and the impact that illness, injury, disability, and hospitalization have on this process. Program elements are designed to reduce distress, increase adaptive coping and protect and enhance developmental integrity, by offering opportunities to play, learn and interact with others in an emotionally and physically safe environment.

In collaboration with other health providers and in the context of a supportive and trusting relationship with children and families, child life services shall include the following:

• This is a clinically focused position that is challenged to maintain a well-organized and functioning Child Life program that allows for the enhancement of evidenced based practice and continuity of developmentally appropriate pediatric care across the continuum.

• The Supervisor of Child Life acts as a role model, resource, and coach to all members of the Child Life team to provide ongoing support for professional development, maintenance of the standards of care and quality outcomes along with evaluation and feedback of performance to team members

• The Supervisor of Child Life facilitates professional relationships between physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams to provide a patient focused plan of care.

• Interviewing and hiring new staff when appropriate

• Oversight of department policies and procedures, reporting of departmental statistics, and management of department specific supplies, inventory, and associated spending.

• Coordination and oversight of Child Life volunteer program, internship program, and community engagements as needed

• Daily activities as of Child Life Specialist

This position does provide patient care

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Bachelor’s degree in child/human development, education, or psychology or a Bachelor of Science in Child Life.
Experience:
Three years experience with children in a health care setting or related setting required. Leadership experience preferred
License(s):
None
Certification(s):
Certification of Child Life Specialty (CCLS) issued by Association of Child Life Professionals required at time of hire..
Current BLS certification by AHA standards required at time of hire.
Computer / Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
