Position Purpose

This position is responsible for performing a variety of supervisory function of the following roles: Patient Safety Assistants and Care Aids.

This position is also responsible for cost effective decisions and actions in accordance with regulatory requirements and organizational goals, while ensuring a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors of Renown Health.

This position will be required to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.

Nature and Scope

Incumbent must supervise employees who have the necessary skills to function safely and competently in patient observation using direct observation or tele-sitter equipment to remotely monitor multiple patients simultaneously. Incumbent must direct the activities of the staff and have the ability to quickly assess, evaluate, and deploy problem-solving techniques on behalf of the services offered. The incumbent works to support clinical nursing with safety observation of patients requiring observation for safety related purposes. Incumbent must be able to function autonomously and make appropriate decisions that align with and support the patient experience initiative. Some functions of this position may include but are not limited to:

Supports comprehensive patient safety and quality initiatives. This is accomplished through an organized systematic approach to problem identification, corrective actions and monitoring throughout the organization, the Joint commission requirements for all programs surveyed, CMS and state requirements. Promotes patient safety and quality programs; functions as a facilitator of change and redesign while assuring safety practices are adapted within the organization and focused to support and promote the mission, vision and values of the organization.

Plans, implements and manages patient safety initiatives that decrease risk of safety events based on incident reporting and issues that arise through ongoing monitoring and reporting. Facilitates process improvements that will support the reduction of medical and health care errors and other factors that contribute to adverse patient outcomes.

  1. Recommend policies and operating procedures to ensure patient experience outcomes, assist in developing programs and services as appropriate, evaluate existing services to ensure efficiency, quality and effectiveness of operations, while ensuring compliance with hospital regulations and applicable state and federal laws.
  2. Ensure effective communication between employee, patients, and visitors of Renown Health, and respond to their needs, requests and concerns as appropriate; communicate directly with leaders regarding specific problems or trends to ensure quality of services.
  3. Manage various personnel functions including, but not limited to hiring, promotions, training, performance evaluations, coaching and corrective action, and scheduling.
  4. Use of the AvaSys TeleSitter solution software including maintaining visual observation at all times, verbally redirecting patient over digital 2-way audio device, and immediately summoning staff if the patient requires assistance. Providing reporting from AvaSys TeleSitter system.
  5. Acts as an Educator for house-wide roles that function as a Patient Safety Assistant for new-hire training as well as annual Professional Development.
  6. Maintenance and distribution of AvaSys Telesitter system reports.
  7. Managing and communicating with leadership of contracted staff and managing on boarding and continuing education of these staff.
  8. Participation and presentation in committees and workgroups specific to patient safety and suicide prevention.
  9. Implementation and maintenance of new initiatives such as the Sterling Silver employees and contracted staff.

This position does not provide patient care.

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Associate's degree in a health-related field required or 2 years of related job or industry experience in the lieu of degree.
Experience:
Requires one year of hospital support services experience, or one year of leadership experience; or six (6) months direct experience in a hospital dispatch or patient transport environment.
License(s):
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Certification(s):
Current BLS certification by AHA is required within 30 days of employment.
Computer / Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
