Safe Sitter® is designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. The instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students will learn safety skill, childcare skills, first aid and rescue skills, life and business skills, and CPR. Each participant will receive a handbook and a certificate of completion, not a traditional CPR card. Please pack a lunch, water & snacks or you can eat at our Sierra Café or Starbucks. Class fee includes partner. Many things have changed since the participants in Grandparents: Getting Started raised their own children. It is important for grandparents to learn the new recommendations for care, based on research from doctors and scientists studying the physical and emotional development of infants and children. Taught by certified Safe Sitter® Instructors, participants will learn how to provide the best and safest care for their grandchildren. They will also learn the latest information on how to safely care for infants and children, how to manage the behavior of children of all ages, and essential life-saving skills such as choking rescue, first aid, CPR, and injury management. Additionally, learning tips on creating a good relationship from the start and how to respond to frequent babysitting requests will help grandparents enhance their relationship with their children and create lasting memories with their grandchildren. Ticket includes partner. This class helps prepare parents for emergencies that may occur with infants and toddlers. Along with car seat safety and basic child proofing, discussion will include prevention and treatment of common injuries. Students will also learn and practice the skills necessary to perform infant and child CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), as well as the skills necessary to assist a choking infant and child. The American Heart Association Family & Friends “Infant and Child CPR and Choking” course is for those who want to learn Infant and child CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. Grandparents and other caregivers are welcome to attend. This class is geared towards infants and toddlers and includes both Infant and Child CPR.
