When Laci Castleman joined Renown Health in 2014 as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), she could have never imagined how far her career journey would take her. Through Renown’s education benefits, Laci took advantage of tuition reimbursement and student loan repayment to advance her skills, not just by one degree, but three degrees—leading to a unique hybrid role she enjoys today.

Dedicated to Bettering Her Skills

Laci has always been committed to making a difference in healthcare and wanted to find the perfect harmony in applying her talents and education in her role. She first began her journey on the General Surgical Unit, where she took on a dual role as a CNS and Unit Clerk, partnering with leadership and carrying out key tasks and support for the department. Then, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, where she worked full-time and completed her degree, leveraging Renown’s tuition reimbursement along the way.

Laci was motivated to continue learning as she became the Supervisor of Patient Safety in the Float Pool. She then completed an accelerated Master of Business Administration (MBA) program through the University of Phoenix, again utilizing tuition reimbursement and student loan repayment and maintaining her supervisor role.

Making a Difference with Her Unique Skills

After obtaining her MBA, Laci was eager to apply her new knowledge and skills. Because she had some exposure to the Quality team’s work in her previous roles, she shared her interest in learning more about the department and made connections with the team. In 2024, she transitioned from an inpatient to an outpatient role as the Quality Coordinator for Renown Medical Group.

In her current role, she ensures each Renown outpatient clinic upholds compliance standards while helping identify improvement areas and facilitating educational efforts. Her hybrid schedule allows her to work from home while also giving her the opportunity to be hands-on in our various outpatient clinics.

Kenz always knew she wanted to work at Renown and in healthcare. As a kid, she pictured herself becoming a heart surgeon. But when she turned 21 and started researching career paths, she discovered a world of possibilities in healthcare. She found several entry points into the hospital setting and applied for three jobs at once: Patient Access Representative, Unit Clerk in the emergency room (ER) and Unit Clerk in the operating room (OR). She got all three offers. “They told me, ‘You get to pick,’” Kenz said. She chose the OR. That decision, made early in her career, became the start of a path that would eventually place her at the center of the surgical team, doing work that directly changes patients’ lives.
