What Is Oncology Wellness? A New Kind of Cancer Care at Renown

At Renown Health, we believe cancer care is about more than just treatment—it’s about healing the whole person. That’s why we created something special: a program specifically designed for cancer wellness, built right into our new Conrad Breast Center.
One Place for Everything You Need
When you’re going through cancer, you already have enough to worry about. That’s why we made it easier to get the care you need. At the Conrad Breast Center, all your services are under one roof—from diagnosis and treatment to support and recovery.
“We bring all our clinical and supportive care together in one place,” says Kate Ward, PharmD, VP of Oncology at Renown. “That way, patients don’t have to visit different clinics or repeat themselves to different doctors.”
It’s the first center of its kind in northern Nevada—and it’s designed with your comfort in mind.
A Wellness Program That Cares for the Whole You
In the fall of 2024, Dr. Madeline Hardacre, Oncology Wellness Physician at Renown, launched the Renown Oncology Wellness program—a first in our region. This program gives people with cancer access to tools that help them feel better physically and emotionally.
“Research shows that things like movement, sleep, good food, and stress relief can help improve treatment and recovery,” says Dr. Hardacre. “These things matter just as much as medicine.”
The program’s new home is inside the Conrad Breast Center. It includes:
- A large room for support groups, fitness classes and events
- A salon for hair and beauty services
- Private spaces for wellness appointments
- A therapy room for services like massage and aromatherapy

What Happens in a Wellness Appointment?
Dr. Hardacre meets with each patient to understand their needs. Then, she builds a wellness plan just for them. This might include:
- Walking groups
- Healthy cooking demos
- Yoga and meditation
- Art or music therapy
- Support groups for patients and caregivers
The goal? Help you feel stronger, more confident, and supported—no matter where you are in your cancer journey.
Care That Doesn’t Add to the Stress
Cancer care can be expensive. That’s why many of our wellness services are supported by donations, allowing them to be offered at no cost or at a low price to patients. “We don’t want money to stand in the way of someone feeling better,” says Dr. Hardacre.
Who Can Join?
Any patient with cancer can ask their oncologist or primary care doctor to refer them to Renown Oncology Wellness. It’s an excellent option for people who want to:
- Learn healthy habits during or after treatment
- Talk about intimacy or body changes
- Get support for life beyond a cancer diagnosis
Why It Matters
“Cancer wellness is an important step forward,” says Dr. Max Coppes, director of the William N. Pennington Cancer Institute. “It gives people the tools and support they need to heal and thrive.”
Dr. Hardacre agrees. “At Renown, we care for the person—not just the diagnosis,” she says. “I chose to practice at Renown Health because it offered the incredibly rare opportunity to build something meaningful for my community from the ground up,” she says. “It’s gratifying to play a part in a cancer institute that doesn’t just treat cancer but also supports the person and the caregiver behind the diagnosis.”
