Renown's Surgical University offers career advancement opportunities.
For current RNs interested in joining a career in surgery, Renown’s Surgical University (or “Surg-U”) program is an ideal fit for nurses who want to learn more about the fundamentals of a perioperative nurse role.
This 6-9 month program offers future surgery nurses the chance to learn perioperative nurse principles while circulating through surgical departments in the Operating Room at Renown South Meadows Medical Center and Roseview Same Day Surgery and the Trauma Operating Room at Renown Regional Medical Center.
Trainees will learn the concept of the sterile field, surgical asepsis, patient safety, the foundations of surgery, foundations of surgical anesthesia and the responsibilities to the surgical team.
If you have experience as a nurse, EMT/paramedic, certified nursing assistant, vet tech, emergency room tech, SPD tech, orderly or anything similar, you are welcome to apply! An active Nevada RN license is required for admission.
- All prospective candidates must have the ability to apply for and maintain a Nevada RN license to qualify.
Spring Cohort Program Overview
What will you learn during Renown’s Surgical University Program?
Participants complete classroom instruction and rotations through operating rooms at Renown Regional and Renown South Meadows. Training covers perioperative nursing principles, sterile field concepts, surgical asepsis, patient safety, foundations of surgery, surgical anesthesia and the RN's responsibilities as part of the surgical team.
Program Overview:
- Program length: Six to nine months.
- Position: Full time and benefits eligible.
- Pay: This is a paid apprenticeship. A recruiter will review pay details with candidates.
- Who can apply: Internal and external candidates.
- Schedule: Hours and days vary throughout the program. Participants must have a flexible schedule.
- Program locations: Renown Regional Medical Center and Renown South Meadows Medical Center operating rooms.
- Experience required: One year of acute care bedside nursing experience.
- Licensure required: Candidates must hold an active Nevada RN license.
Timeline:
