Understanding Clinical Research

How Clinical Research Can Help You and Others
People participate in clinical trials to learn more about their condition, access innovative treatments, expand their care team, and help advance medical research. Every medication, device, and treatment used in healthcare today exists because patients volunteered for clinical research.
At Renown Health, we offer clinical trial opportunities across many specialties, bringing innovative screening and treatment options to patients throughout Nevada. You can explore currently available studies in our Clinical Trials Directory.
Participating in a clinical research study is a personal and voluntary decision, often discussed with your healthcare provider. Potential volunteers are carefully screened to ensure they meet study requirements, with patient safety as the top priority. If you’re interested in joining a study, our team will walk you through the details so you can decide whether participation is right for you.
Types of Research
We offer a range of study types to fit the needs of our patients and care providers.
Clinical Trial (Interventional Study)
An Interventional Study that looks at the safety and effectiveness of treatments and processes to treat health conditions and save lives. Clinical trials may focus on developing and testing:
- Medications: to develop the next generation of pharmaceuticals to better target and treat health conditions
- Procedures: such as new surgical options or techniques
- Medical devices: such as wearable equipment, imaging machines, surgical instruments, implants, and diagnostic tools
- New uses for existing treatments: for other health conditions or groups of patients
Observational Study
During an Observational Study, researchers watch or collect information about those involved in the study without introducing any changes, known as an intervention.

Being part of a clinical trial, observational study, or research project may provide access to an expanded clinical team to support you on your healthcare journey as well as the latest treatments, technology, and screening tests not yet available to everyone. All of this will be offered right here in our local community.
The medicines, devices, treatments or screening tests might be used in addition to the standard care you are currently receiving. This will be explained to you before you decide to participate. If you decide to join a study, your care provider will remain part of your care team. Speak with your current care provider if you are interested in joining a clinical trial.
A referral from your care provider is not required to be involved in a research study.

There is nothing more important than your child’s health and well-being. Our team of pediatric researchers provide exceptional care every day to families like yours. We are here to support you in making the decision that is right for you and your family.
Clinical trials, observational studies, and research projects, are not just for adults; they play a crucial role in supporting care providers to improve diagnoses and treatment for infants, children, and teens. Any child may be eligible to participate in research regardless of their health status.
Enrolling your child in a research study can provide a valuable care option. This process is designed to ensure that your child's well-being is always the main focus. By participating, your child may gain access to cutting-edge treatments and technologies that are not yet available to everyone.
While there is no guarantee your child will benefit from participating in a clinical research study, their involvement is significant and helps improve healthcare for all children.
