Dr. Slonim’s notable career spans complex healthcare systems from the federal government to the private sector, academic medicine and public health. Sy Johnson, MBA Chief of Staff
Sy came to Reno from PeaceHealth in Vancouver, Wash. where he served as Chief Executive Officer for the Columbia Network. In his role at Renown Health, Sy oversees operations at Renown Regional Medical Center, Renown South Meadows Medical Center and Renown’s network services. A national award-winning senior executive with over 20 years of healthcare experience, Sy has a solid background in strategic, operational and financial business planning; physician relationships and clinical integration; as well as a keen focus on quality and patient service enhancement.
Ann Beck, MBA CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Ann offers more than 20 years of experience building and leading high-functioning, engaged teams. She is a practiced healthcare finance leader with 13 years of CFO experience. She has been instrumental in her service to the Acute Care Division, Revenue Cycle, and Health Information Management before her promotion to system Chief Financial Officer. She is deeply experienced in advising and guiding corporations through complex restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, process improvement, and debt financing. Ann joined Renown in 2018. Before her work at Renown, she was the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer for Carson Tahoe Health System. She restructured existing debt and structured new money issuance to reduce both cost of capital and balance sheet risk. Ann also championed an orthopedic service line improvement project, resulting in reduced length of stay and supply costs.
Hector Boirie, MBA CHIEF STRATEGY OFFICER
Hector Boirie is the Chief Strategy Officer at Renown Health and oversees the design and implementation of Renown's strategic direction. He works to advance relationships and advise on investments in innovation critical to the organization's success. Previously, Hector served as Senior Vice President and Chief Resource Officer for Providence St. Joseph Health System in Washington. He has also served as Vice President/General Manager, Client Management for Med Assets in Georgia, and held several roles at Mercy Health System in St. Louis, Missouri. Hector holds governance appointments with the Amazon Healthcare Advisory Board, the IDN Summit, and is the Founding Chair of the Advisory Board, Health Connect Partners, Inc. He served on the St. Louis Puerto Rican Association and Casa de Salud, St. Louis, Missouri boards.
Chris Bosse, CHIEF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS OFFICER
Chris Bosse has worked in healthcare and for Renown Health for more than two decades. As Chief Government Relations Officer for Renown Health, Chris is responsible for developing strategic relationships between Renown Health and government and community bodies. She is also responsible for educating federal and state legislators, government, and community leaders about healthcare and the issues that put Renown's services at risk. Before her role in government relations, she focused primarily on financial projects as Vice President of Finance for Renown Regional Medical Center and Vice President of Financial Operations for Renown's Integrated Health Network. This included traditional financial responsibilities such as financial reporting and budgeting to more healthcare-specific obligations such as reimbursement, medical records, admitting, social services and case management. She serves on the Nevada Hospital Association, HealthInsight Nevada, HealthInsight Management Corporation, HealtHIE Nevada, and Northern Nevada HOPES boards.
Suzanne Hendery, MA, APR CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER
Suzanne joined Renown Health from Baystate Health in Springfield, MA, one of the country's top integrated health organizations. As a seasoned healthcare executive, she partners with clinicians, colleagues and community members to listen and collaboratively develop programs, communications and experiences that exceed their expectations. At Renown, she advances the organization's strategy and mission by growing reputation, engagement, loyalty, referrals and volumes in conjunction with her marketing, internal and external communications, web/digital/social media and media relations team. Suzanne has over 25 years of business strategy experience, including marketing, program development, collaborative innovation through branding and digital strategy, customer experience design, and team member and customer engagement. Suzanne earned her Master of Arts in Marketing Communications from the University of Connecticut and her Bachelor's degree in Media Systems and Management from Westfield State University in MA. She is a guest lecturer at Harvard University's Masters in Management program, the American Marketing Association Health Care Executive Board, and the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development.
Melinda Mendoza, BSN, JD Chief COMPLIANCE OFFICER
Melinda is responsible for providing direction and oversight of the Renown Health Corporate Compliance and Internal Audit Program. Melinda identifies risks and ensures that Renown adheres to a robust code of ethics, principals and policies. Melinda also is the driver of education for employees, board members and physicians on the importance of corporate compliance in the workplace. Melinda came to Renown with more than a decade of work experience at the University of Arizona Health Network in Tucson. She began her career as a corporate compliance officer and eventually was named associate general counsel. She has a Juris Doctorate and a Bachelor's Degree in nursing, both from the University of Arizona. She also is certified in both procedural code and healthcare compliance.
Michelle Sanchez-Bickley, MS, SPHR, SHRM-SCP CHIEF HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER
Michelle joined Renown Health in 2002 and has been the vice president of Human Resources since 2008. She has more than 20 years of HR leadership experience, and 14 years have been in healthcare. Before joining Renown, Michelle lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and worked in consulting and financial service industries. With a Bachelor's degree in political science and justice studies from Frostburg State University in Maryland, Michelle earned her Master's degree in human resource development from Georgia State University in Georgia. She is a certified senior professional in human resources (SPHR) and a Senior Professional Human Resources Credential (SHRM-SCP). She loves working with such a dedicated group of individuals committed to making a genuine difference for our patients and our community. Michelle's involvement with the community includes serving on Nevadaworks, Education Alliance, and Nevada Association of Employers boards. She is an advisory board member for Western Governor's University (WGU) and teaches Human Resource courses through UNR extended studies. Having lived in other areas of the country, she is proud to call Reno home.
Gregory Walaitis, MA CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Greg Walaitis has more than 20 years of experience in philanthropy, board development, fundraising and donor stewardship. As Chief Development Officer, Greg works alongside the Renown Health Foundation Board Chair and Renown's leadership team to guide and drive philanthropy while creating a culture of giving and executing Renown's strategic plan. He joined Renown from Sutter Health, where he served as Executive Director and managed $55 million in donor assets for Sutter Sacramento, Sutter Davis and Sutter Solano Medical Centers. Greg started his career at Arizona State University and served at Fresno State and Trinity Health in advancement positions. Greg has raised significant philanthropic dollars to support many clinical services, programs, technology and equipment. One partnership stands out, Sophie's Place music therapy program with Steve Young's foundation. Greg earned both his Master's and Bachelor's degrees from Arizona State University. He is an active member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. He and his wife, Karen, have two children (Megan and Derek), both in college. In his free time, Greg coaches lacrosse as a volunteer for the UNR Men's Lacrosse club team.
Paul Harris, CHIEF LEGAL COUNSEL
Paul R. Harris serves as the Chief Legal Officer for Renown Health. Paul is responsible for providing legal counsel and guidance to the health system, advising senior leadership on legal matters, and supervising the health network's representation in legal proceedings. Paul served as Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at CentraCare Health, a not-for-profit integrated health system in St. Cloud, Minn. He has more than 30 years of legal experience, including oversight of legal and compliance, government relations, risk and team management, as well as serving in private practice. Paul is a member of numerous professional associations and currently serves as counsel and advisory on several professional and community boards.
Board of DirectorsThe Renown Health Board is responsible for the entire health network including strategic direction and approval of capital and operating budgets.
