‘Tis the Season of Giving! Greater Nevada Credit Union Donates $100,000 to Renown Children’s Hospital in Support of New Bassinets for Babies

Team members from Renown Children's Hospital and Greater Nevada Credit Union pose for a photo featuring a $100,000 gift that will fund 22 bassinets, much like the one showed here.

Generous gift will purchase 22 bassinets at area’s premier Birthing unit at Renown Regional Medical Center.

Renown Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Renown Health, received a significant gift from longtime partner Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) in support of Renown Children’s Hospital, the only dedicated children’s hospital in northern Nevada and region’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals ® (CMNH) member. At a check presentation and holiday toy donation event today, GNCU publicly announced their $100,000 donation to fund 22 new bassinets for babies at Renown’s Baby & Family Suites.

The generous gift from GNCU will improve care for newborns and their families on Renown’s Labor & Delivery floor by expanding access to safe sleep and comfort while in the hospital. Renown Health’s Labor & Delivery Center, located at Renown Regional is nationally ranked for maternity care and delivers more babies annually than any other hospital in the region.

As another substantial aspect of this gift, GNCU will also donate 4,500 piggy banks in gift boxes for babies, as a gift to the new families when they leave the Postpartum unit. This gesture promotes financial wellness and helps families launch their newborn’s financial savings journey.

“We are honored to be the recipient of such incredible generosity from Greater Nevada Credit Union, a steadfast partner of Renown Children’s Hospital and major donor to Renown Health Foundation,” said Greg Walaitis, Chief Development Officer, Renown Health Foundation. “The added benefit of sending babies home with their first piggy banks helps to encourage families to dream big about their children’s financial futures. These piggy banks symbolize a lifetime of saving, planning and investing, which we hope inspirate conversations about building a secure future for the next generation. We know parents and children will be thrilled with this gift.”

“In 2024, women delivered over 4,000 babies at Renown; Greater Nevada Credit Union’s $100,000 donation will be instrumental in ensuring our tiniest patients experience the safest slumber and best-possible comfort during their stay, in their new bassinets. The additional gift of a piggy bank is a symbol of hope and possibility- for both parents and children. We’re proud to partner with GNCU in helping families take this first step toward a lifetime of financial wellness and opportunity,” said Paige McCall, Vice President of Women and Children’s Services, Renown Health.

GNCU has been a lasting supporter and donor of Renown Children's Hospital and its CMNH membership since 1998. After learning about Credit Unions for Kids, a cooperative network of credit unions that benefit CMNH hospitals, including Renown Children’s Hospital, GNCU launched their support, which over the years would turn into a longstanding and worthwhile partnership.

"At Greater Nevada Credit Union, our mission is to help more people Live Greater, and one of the ways we achieve this is by investing in the health and well-being of our community's youngest members,” said Danny DeLaRosa, President and CEO, GNCU. “We are honored to partner with Renown Health to support the incredible work being done in the Labor and Delivery and Postpartum units. These bassinets symbolize the beginning of a new chapter for so many families, and we’re proud to play a role in making their first moments together even greater."

Renown Children’s Hospital is proud to be the only CMNH hospital in northern Nevada, one of only 170 premier children’s hospitals in North America. Renown Health Foundation oversees the local CMNH programs and its fundraising. One hundred percent of all funds raised by CMNH partners stay local to support children and families in our community. Your generous support affords much-needed items to help our littlest patients cope with the potential stressors associated with hospitalization and illness.
