When most people think about bone health, they think about calcium, aging or maybe avoiding a broken hip after a fall.

Find an imaging location near you!

But bone strength involves more than just density.

Renown Imaging now offers DEXA scans with Trabecular Bone Score (TBS), an advanced tool that gives providers a more complete picture of bone health and fracture risk. This is all done with one quick, noninvasive scan.

So, what is TBS?

A traditional DEXA scan measures bone density, which is still an important part of osteoporosis screening.

Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) adds more information by looking at bone quality and the structure inside your bones. It is similar to checking the framework inside the walls of a house, not just the outside.

This is important because bones can look “normal” on a density test but still be weaker than you might expect.

In fact, more than half of fractures happen in people whose bone density does not meet the criteria for osteoporosis.

Why Patients May Benefit

TBS can help providers better understand fracture risk, especially for patients who are already at higher risk for bone loss or fractures.

That includes:

  • Postmenopausal women
  • Patients with osteopenia
  • People taking long-term steroid medications
  • Patients with diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis
  • Breast cancer patients on certain therapies

The goal is simple. We want to catch concerns early and help patients take steps to protect their bone health before a fracture occurs.

The best part is that there is nothing extra for patients to do.

Adding TBS does not require another appointment or another scan.

TBS uses the same DEXA images already taken during your exam, so there is no extra radiation or extra testing needed.

In other words, you get better information with the same easy appointment.

Supporting Strong Bones for the Long Run

Bone loss can happen slowly over time, often without any symptoms until a fracture happens.

By adding TBS technology, Renown Imaging helps providers better understand bone strength and helps patients make informed choices about their health.

Because staying active, independent, and strong starts from the inside out.
