Renown Health’s expanding gynecologic surgery team is bringing more advanced care closer to home than ever before.

Advanced Pelvic Surgery at Renown

Women’s Specialty Care recently added two physicians, bringing its total to three fellowship-trained surgeons. These specialists provide care for pelvic floor disorders, including chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, uterine fibroids and more. The team offers a full range of therapeutic options.

“We are fellowship-trained, high-volume surgeons who employ minimally invasive approaches, allowing a quick return to function,”
says Kerac Falk, MD, division director of gynecologic surgical subspecialties at Renown Health.
“We are also quality-of-life surgeons whose chief goal is to allow women the freedom to live to their highest potential without being held back by incontinence or pain.”

Medical advancements featured:

  • Fellowship-trained gynecologic surgeons
  • Minimally invasive surgical techniques
  • High-volume surgical expertise

Expert Additions to the Team

Adding more gynecologic surgeons is helping make Renown Health the premier referral destination for gynecologic surgery in northern Nevada and neighboring regions.

Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery

Urogynecologist Angela Dao, MD, completed a fellowship in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery at the University of New Mexico. She offers both office-based and surgical treatments.

“For incontinence, our clinic-based care includes lifestyle changes, medications, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation and bladder Botox injections,” Dr. Dao says.
“In the operating room, we can provide urethral bulking, mid-urethral slings and sacral neuromodulation. Given our additional training, we’re experts in treating complex conditions like mesh exposure, urogenital fistula and urethral diverticulum.”

Medical advancements featured:

  • Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS)
  • Bladder Botox injections
  • Urethral bulking agents
  • Mid-urethral sling procedures
  • Sacral neuromodulation therapy
  • Treatment for mesh exposure, urogenital fistula, and urethral diverticulum

Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

Victoria Novoa, MD, specializes in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and completed a fellowship at Henry Ford Health.

“Patients have access to advanced laparoscopic and robotic procedures, including hysterectomy, myomectomy, ovarian cystectomy and more, that significantly reduce recovery time and postoperative pain compared with open surgery,”
she says.
“I am proud to be one of the only fellowship-trained minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons in northern Nevada.”

Medical advancements featured:

  • Advanced laparoscopic procedures
  • Robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery
  • Minimally invasive hysterectomy, myomectomy, and ovarian cystectomy
  • Shorter recovery and reduced pain vs. open surgery
  • Fellowship-level expertise in minimally invasive techniques

Teaming Up for Whole-Person Care

Many pelvic conditions occur alongside disease processes affecting other organ systems, bones or nerves, which makes interdisciplinary care crucial to successful treatment. The specialists of Advanced Pelvic Surgery at Renown Women’s Specialty Care collaborate across medical disciplines to perform the most complicated gynecologic procedures.

“It is important to take a multidisciplinary approach to address the whole patient rather than a single aspect of their health,” says urogynecologist Angela Dao, MD.
“This may involve collaboration with other specialties, such as cardiology, gastroenterology or neurology. Surgically, my colleagues and I are trained to care for all gynecologic conditions, but we maintain close relationships with specialists in urology and colorectal surgery for assistance with complex cases.”

Medical advancements featured or supported:

  • Multidisciplinary surgical planning
  • Integrated treatment involving cardiology, GI, neurology, urology, and colorectal surgery
  • Team-based care for complex gynecologic conditions
