Radiation oncology team near new RT revolution scanner for cancer treatment

Follow along in Renown’s Mission in Motion series, where we showcase how employees embody our mission, vision and values through work that advances our strategic priorities.

This second feature celebrates the Radiation Oncology team at Renown's William N. Pennington Cancer Institute and their efforts in bringing leading-edge equipment through our doors that will propel essential and advanced cancer care in our community.

Beyond Equipment – The Future of Cancer Care

Recognizing a need for a technology that provides more targeted cancer diagnostics and treatment plans, the Radiation Oncology team led a capital project to bring the Revolution RT and Omni Legend scanners to Renown Regional Medical Center.

Revolution RT scanner for radiation therapy planning and diagnostic imaging

The Revolution RT and Omni Legend not only provide precision for radiation therapy planning, simulation and diagnostic imaging, but it also does so in a single session, compared to other technologies that require multiple patient scans. When every moment matters, helping patients navigate their best possible treatment sooner was an important deciding factor for the team to bring this solution to the table.

Unlike traditional PET/CT scanners, the Omni Legend features an innovative detector that allows for faster scans, lower patient dose and precise cancer detection. The Omni Legend is also designed with our employees in mind. The new intuitive interface and streamlined workflow reduces complexity for our Radiation Oncology team, allowing them to focus on providing excellent patient care.

“This machine is designed for everyone in the room, from the patient to the radiation therapist and doctors,” said Sandra Bailey, Manager of Radiation Oncology Services at Renown. “It allows our team to work efficiently, while providing patients with a comfortable, precise experience from the first scan.”

Paving the Way for Advanced Cancer Care

As the area’s only integrated academic health system, Renown is committed to expanding academic research opportunities and providing essential and advanced care. One way Renown is delivering on this promise is through the future expansion of the Roseview Tower at Renown Regional, which will bring more coordinated and advanced cancer care services to our community.

Another way the team is bringing this vision closer to reality is by offering additional educational opportunities to train the next generation of healthcare leaders through new residency programs, such as the medical physicist residency program established last fall.

The Team Behind It All

At the heart of this work are several key team members who made this vision possible. Please join us in recognizing them for their mission-inspired dedication:
