Renown Vascular Care Transforms High Blood Pressure Treatment

Nearly half of Americans over age 20 have high blood pressure—also known as hypertension—and many are unaware of their condition. Without proper management, hypertension significantly increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.
As the region’s only not-for-profit academic health system and a leader in cardiology care, we are dedicated to advancing both clinical and technological expertise. Effectively treating hypertension, including resistant cases, is essential to meeting our community’s needs and offering essential and advanced care options.
AHA-Certified Hypertension Center
Renown Vascular Care is the only center in Nevada to be recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a Comprehensive Hypertension Center, reflecting our commitment to proven treatment guidelines for patients with complex or difficult-to-treat hypertension.
What is Complex Resistant Hypertension?
For most people, blood pressure can be managed through a combination of lifestyle changes and medication. However, some individuals find it more difficult to control. Those who require more than three blood pressure medications are considered to have resistant hypertension.
The Resistant Hypertension Clinic at Renown Vascular Care, led by AHA Certified Hypertension Specialists Dr. Michael J. Bloch and Dr. Jason Crawford, provides comprehensive consultations, evaluations, education and individualized treatment plans.
New Hope for Resistant High Blood Pressure: New Treatment Options at Renown
Caring for patients with difficult-to-control hypertension doesn’t end there! Renown Vascular Care is excited to offer a new procedure, renal denervation (RDN), as a complement to lifestyle modification and medications to lower blood pressure. This one-time procedure safely and durably lowers blood pressure by disrupting the overactive sympathetic signaling between the kidneys and brain. RDN is considered an option for treating uncontrolled hypertension in the 2025 guidelines from the AHA. As a national leader in the emerging field of interventional therapy for hypertension, Renown offers both commercial RDN therapy with the Medtronic Symplicity system and several unique clinical trials of investigational technologies, including being one of the very first sites in the country to perform dual-organ denervation (renal and hepatic).
Patients with uncontrolled, resistant hypertension can discuss a referral to the Resistant Hypertension Clinic at Renown Vascular Care with their primary care provider.
Making Strides in Heart and Vascular Care
Renown Vascular Care’s new AHA Comprehensive Hypertension Center certification and introduction of the RDN procedure reflect our continued commitment to advancing essential care for our community. By expanding access to innovative and research-backed treatment options for patients with complex or difficult-to-treat hypertension, Renown Vascular Care and the Office of Clinical Trials are helping elevate the standard of care and improve the health outcomes of patients in our community.
