Meet the Provider

Alexander L. Ayzengart, MD, MPH, FACS, FASMBS, is a robotic bariatric and gastroesophageal surgeon in Renown’s Department of Surgery.

He specializes in minimally invasive treatment of obesity, reflux, esophageal and stomach disorders and select general abdominal conditions. His clinical interests include bariatric, anti-reflux, gastroesophageal and abdominal surgery.

Dr. Ayzengart is also a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, where he is actively involved in education and research. Before joining Renown, he was an assistant professor in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and completed his general surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. He then completed advanced training in laparoscopic, robotic and bariatric surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Dr. Ayzengart also served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. As an active-duty general surgeon, he served as a staff surgeon at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and as a department head at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka in Japan.

Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Ayzengart is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He currently serves as vice president of the California/Nevada chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He previously served as president-elect of the organization’s Florida, Puerto Rico and Caribbean chapter.

Dr. Ayzengart is a longtime committee member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the American Foregut Society and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. A recognized expert in bariatric and gastroesophageal surgery, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and presented at regional, national and international conferences. He also trains and mentors surgeons interested in incorporating robotic surgery into their practices.
