Reno Home to Top-Performing Supply Chain of Distinction

Renown Health Logo

Only organization in Nevada and one of 4,100 to receive national recognition for healthcare supply operations.

Renown Health has earned the Top 25 Medium Hospitals- Supply Chain of Distinction Award, which recognizes top performing hospitals and health systems in North America for "perfect order" metrics for supply chain performance by GHX. The Supply Chains of Distinction Award honors GHX Exchange-connected provider organizations that excelled in driving best-in-class supply chain operations. This is achieved through the successful execution of perfect order metrics during a calendar year. GHX represents more than 4,100 hospitals across North America.

“We are proud to recognize our Supply Chain team for achieving exceptional performance and being recognized nationally for best-in-class operations,” said Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President & CEO, Renown Health. “A well-run supply chain helps to ensure that physicians, nurses, and clinicians have the necessary resources to provide quality care to patients. Effective supply chain management helps to reduce costs, minimize waste, and optimize inventory levels. We celebrate and thank our team for their continued dedication to making a genuine difference in the health and well-being of the people and communities we serve.”

Awareness of hospital supply chains increased during the COVID-19 pandemic when lockdowns were implemented globally, slowing down the manufacturing of new products and pharmaceuticals and interrupting the smooth flow of goods. Supply chains play a role in every industry, but those in healthcare are particularly vital, ensuring that the right products in the right quantities are available at the right places and at the right times, to ensure excellence in patient care.

"Each of these outstanding organizations demonstrates a deep commitment to innovation in service to a more reliable, responsive and resilient healthcare supply chain," said Tina Vatanka Murphy, president, and CEO, GHX. "Renown Health is driving the industry forward and making positive, lasting contributions to the patients and families we serve together.”

“With more than 4,100 North American hospitals vying for this level of excellence, this is an enormous feat for our purchasing and data management teams,” says Mary Shipley MBA, LMT, CCT Director of Supply Chain at Renown Health. “It is difficult to meet these standards of performance, and we’ve been working towards this for ten years. It is heartwarming to be nationally recognized for our work for our medical professionals and patients.”

This ranking is based upon a set of "perfect order" metrics, rated as a percentage of PO lines sent across the GHX Exchange that are touchless and completely automated, from purchase through payment.

Renown Health Recognized as Best Hospital for Maternity Care

U.S. News & World Report, the global authority on hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named Renown Health as both a 2026 High-Performing hospital for Maternity Care and a Maternity Care Access Hospital. These dual designations underscore Renown Health’s leadership in advancing exceptional and equitable maternal health services. Ratings are intended to help expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care providers, make informed decisions about where to receive safe and effective maternity care. In 2026, 495 top hospitals for Maternity care have been recognized as High Performing across the U.S. Renown Regional Medical Center is the only hospital earning this designation in the northern Nevada region. Four hospitals in Las Vegas also earned honors. The 2026 hospital ratings for Maternity and Perinatal Care review hospitals providing high-quality labor & delivery services for uncomplicated pregnancies. U.S. News evaluates how well hospitals perform in childbirth using C-section rates, newborn severe complication rates, routine vaginal birth after cesarean delivery (VBAC) rates, episiotomy rates, best practices to support breast milk feeding, whether a hospital meets federal criteria for "birthing-friendly" practices, and whether a hospital tracked and reported disparities in outcomes. In terms of quality, these hospitals also demonstrated performance above the lowest normalized values for severe unexpected newborn complications, C-sections or episiotomy rates. Read more about the methodology here. “Providing the highest level of maternity and infant care is essential to the health and strength of our region,” stated Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President and CEO of Renown Health. “High-quality maternity care leads to safer pregnancies, fewer complications, and better long-term outcomes for both mother and child. Renown Health & UNR Orvis School of Nursing Receive National Award

Renown Health, the largest not-for-profit academic health system in the region, and the University of Nevada, Reno’s Orvis School of Nursing (OSN), Nevada’s first and longest-standing nursing school, were recognized for their exceptional academic partnership. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has selected the Gerald “Jerry” Smith Academic-Practice Partnership as a winner of the 2025 AACN Exemplary Academic-Practice Partnership Award. The annual awards program honors AACN member institutions that establish outstanding and model academic-practice partnerships. To be selected, academic-practice partnerships must demonstrate an innovative and sustained relationship that extends beyond clinical placements, present positive outcomes that are measurable, show a commitment to the Guiding Principles for Academic-Practice Partnerships and be in place for at least one year. Awards will be officially presented at the AACN Academic Nursing Leadership Conference, held at the JW Marriott Washington in Washington, D.C., from Nov. 1-3, 2025. “Winning this award affirms a partnership that goes far beyond student placements or tuition support. It’s truly bidirectional: Renown nurses enrich our curriculum and mentor our learners; OSN faculty collaborate inside the health system to strengthen care delivery; and together, we’re advancing nursing science through our joint work to establish an embedded Nurse Scientist at Renown,” said Charlie Yingling, DNP, Dean, Orvis School of Nursing. “This is how academic–practice partners should function—improving how we educate, how we practice and most importantly, how our community receives care.”
