Dedicated pediatric space brings physical, occupational and speech therapy together to support children and families across northern Nevada.
Renown Health celebrated the opening of an expanded pediatric rehabilitation and therapy gym at Renown Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation – E 2nd, expanding access to specialized outpatient services for children from infancy to adolescence.
The expansion is part of Renown's continued investment in pediatric care across northern Nevada, including plans to build the Golisano Children's Hospital at Renown, the region's first standalone children's hospital. Together, these investments are designed to strengthen access to specialized services for children and families.
"As Nevada's academic health system and the region's largest locally owned, not-for-profit health system, Renown Health invests in the services and resources needed to build a stronger network of care for northern Nevada," said Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President and CEO of Renown Health. "This investment in pediatric rehabilitation and therapy advances that work by expanding specialized outpatient care for children and families."
The dedicated pediatric space brings physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy together in one location and is designed to support approximately 4,500 visits annually across the three services. Children receive individualized care during 45-minute, private sessions with licensed therapists. Designed specifically for children with a range of sensory needs, the expanded space creates a more adaptable and supportive environment for outpatient therapy. Specialized equipment and features include adjustable lighting, pediatric staircases, a rock wall, and a swing to allow therapists to tailor care to each child's needs. The expansion is part of Renown's continued investment in providing essential and advanced care across the region.
"Children deserve a therapy environment designed for the way they move, learn and develop. This dedicated space gives our physical, occupational and speech therapists more ways to tailor activities and equipment to each child's needs, while keeping individualized, one-on-one care during every session," said Paige McCall, MHA, Chief Executive Officer of the Golisano Children's Hospital at Renown Health. "Renown's pediatric services are centered on helping children gain independence and reach the milestones that matter most to them and their families. I'm especially proud that we now have a space built specifically for our youngest patients."
The new pediatric rehabilitation space improves the experience for all patients and therapists. Currently, pediatric patients receive care in the same gym as adults, an environment that may be distracting for infants and younger children, especially those who are neurodivergent. Renown's pediatric rehabilitation services support children with a range of developmental, neurological and orthopedic conditions. Therapists work with patients experiencing developmental delays, wry neck, flat head syndrome, toe walking, autism, genetic disorders, neuromuscular conditions, cerebral palsy, pelvic floor dysfunction, pediatric stroke and other conditions.
