Renown Health today celebrated the opening of a new Endoscopy Lab and expanded Pre/Post Procedure Unit at Renown Regional Medical Center, increasing access to specialized care and supporting the growing needs of patients across northern Nevada.
The new Endoscopy Lab includes a dedicated interventional endoscopy suite and two additional procedure rooms, allowing care teams to operate up to three endoscopy suites simultaneously. The expanded facility supports gastroenterology, interventional gastroenterology, pediatric gastroenterology and pulmonary procedures.
“Today marks an important investment in expanding access to essential and advanced care for our community. Renown is investing in vital clinical services to help keep care local, strengthen our network of physicians and providers, optimize care delivery and access, and ensure an exceptional experience for every patient,” said Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President and CEO of Renown Health. “As Nevada’s first and only integrated academic health system, we are uniquely positioned to bring together clinical expertise, education and innovation to provide more high-quality care close to home.”
Over the past six months, Renown has averaged 249 endoscopy procedures each month, with approximately 70% performed on hospitalized patients. The additional capacity is expected to improve access, reduce wait times and support growing demand for specialized care.
Complementing the new Endoscopy Lab is an expanded 24-patient-bay Pre/Post Procedure Unit, more than doubling its previous capacity of 10 patient bays. The unit provides preparation and recovery care for patients undergoing endoscopy, interventional radiology, cardiac catheterization, echocardiography and diagnostic imaging procedures requiring anesthesia.
The modernized space was designed to improve the experience for patients, families and care teams. Each patient bay includes a wall-mounted computer to support bedside care and clinical documentation, as well as a television to enhance comfort during recovery. The unit also features a dedicated isolation room, two nursing stations, provider consultation rooms, upgraded family waiting areas and an enhanced caregiver break room.
“Renown Regional Medical Center is the only adults and pediatric Level II trauma center in a 100,000 square mile area, and over 1 million people rely on our services. We continue to see increasing demand for specialty procedures and timely access to care,” said Chris Nicholas, FACHE, System Chief Operating Officer and CEO of Renown Regional Medical Center. “This expansion will improve workflows, reduce bottlenecks, and help us serve more patients while maintaining a high standard of quality and safety.”
The Pre/Post Procedure Unit serves as an important hub for procedural care across the hospital, supporting patients receiving services through Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology, the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, the Echo Lab and Diagnostic Imaging.
