Renown Health, Pershing County and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) Announce New Outdoor Fitness Court® in Lovelock, Nev.

Renown Health, Pershing County and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) cut the ribbon on a new Outdoor Fitness Court® in Lovelock

Renown Health, Pershing County and NFC have teamed up to bring an outdoor Fitness Court® to Lovelock’s Amherst Park, located at 450 Amherst Ave. The court officially opened on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The National Fitness Court® initiative aims to enhance free access to quality workouts and promote equitable exercise opportunities throughout the state. The Lovelock location is one of six outdoor Fitness Courts funded by Renown Health in communities prioritizing health equity and outdoor fitness. Renown is proud to sponsor NFC to develop fitness courts across the state of Nevada as part of Renown’s not-for-profit, community service mission to create a healthier Nevada and instill wellness in communities across the state.

Designed for individuals aged 14 and older, the Fitness Court features seven exercise stations that use body weight for a comprehensive workout. The adaptable workouts cater to all fitness levels, allowing users to progress at their own pace. Participants can also download the free Fitness Court App, which serves as a digital coach to enhance their fitness experience.

“Access to exercise facilities like parks has been linked to increased physical activity in communities,” said Dr. Brian Erling, President & CEO of Renown Health. “Regular exercise offers numerous health benefits, including weight management, improved mental health, and increased life expectancy. We are thrilled to provide this opportunity to our rural communities at no cost.”

Heidi E. Lusby-Angvick, Executive Director, Pershing County Economic Development Authority, added, “It’s inspiring to see Nevada businesses and the County collaborate for community enhancement. This Fitness Court is a fantastic addition to the Lovelock, and I know it will benefit many community members.”

“Renown Health serves over 1 million people in a 100,000 square mile radius, and many of those people call rural communities home,” said Kerry Kelly, MPH, Renown Health Community Health Manager. “Exercise plays a crucial role in promoting health equity among our rural communities, as it directly impacts physical, mental and social well-being. Access to regular physical activity can significantly reduce health disparities, particularly in underserved and remote areas."

Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign, welcomed Pershing County’s involvement: “We’re proud to partner with Pershing County as a leader in community health and wellness in Nevada.”

The ribbon cutting event included the following representatives from Renown Health: Suzanne Hendery, Chief Marketing & Customer Experience Officer; Kerry Kelly, Community Health Manager; and Caroline Ackerman, Manager of Communications & Public Affairs.

Renown Health Expands Access to Advanced Deep Brain Stimulation Care

Renown Health is expanding access to advanced neurological care with the availability of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery at the Renown Institute for Neurosciences, bringing one of the most sophisticated treatments for movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, closer to home for patients across northern Nevada. “The availability of Deep Brain Stimulation at Renown represents a significant step forward in the level of neurological care we can provide locally,” said Chris Nicholas, MHA, FACHE, CEO, Renown Regional Medical Center and COO, Renown Health. “DBS is a highly specialized therapy that requires advanced technology, surgical expertise and a coordinated care team. By bringing this treatment closer to home, we’re improving access to essential and advanced care options while helping patients achieve better outcomes and quality of life.” DBS is used to help manage symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia; a neurological movement disorder causing involuntary, sustained or repetitive muscle contractions, leading to twisting movements, abnormal postures and sometimes pain, affecting one muscle or the whole body, when medications alone are no longer effective. DBS uses targeted electrical impulses delivered to specific areas of the brain to help regulate abnormal neurological signals. For many patients with movement disorders, DBS can significantly improve symptoms, restore independence and enhance quality of life. This milestone was made possible in part through the generosity of eight local foundations and individual donors, coordinated by the Renown Health Foundation. Contributions ranged from $5,000 to $333,000, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing specialized care in the region. “Philanthropic support played a critical role in making Deep Brain Stimulation available at Renown. Investments from local foundations and individual donors helped fund the advanced technology and infrastructure required to launch this highly specialized program,” said Gregory Walaitis, MEd, Chief Development Officer at Renown Health. “Their generosity is directly expanding access to leading-edge neurological care, allowing patients in our region to receive complex, life-changing treatment close to home and reinforcing Renown’s commitment to innovation and excellence in patient care.”
