      This class is for anyone who has undergone or is undergoing breast cancer treatment and will focus on lymphedema education and reducing the risk of its occurrence. During the class, we will review the basic anatomy of the lymphatic system and define common procedures performed during the treatment course for breast cancer that affects lymphatics. Risk reduction strategies, including compression sleeves, will be reviewed in addition to the typical presentation of early lymphedema. Finally, a brief description of Axillary Web Syndrome will also be reviewed, and basic stretches/exercises to implement if cording is present.

      Advance Directive Workshop

      Space is limited for this event, and registration is required. This workshop is focused on understanding and completing a Nevada Durable Power of Attorney of Healthcare, also known as an Advance Directive. What to expect: A brief presentation about the document, its contents and purpose. Time for questions. Staff will be on hand to assist with document completion. A notary will be present for notarization. Participants may have their document uploaded into their Renown electronic medical record and/or submitted to the Nevada Living Will Lockbox on their behalf. Please come prepared with names, addresses, and phone numbers of those you want to appoint in the document and a photo ID if notarization is desired. All required paperwork will be provided by our staff. If you have questions about this workshop, please call Jessica Elmore, LMSW at 775-982-5098. There is no charge to attend this workshop.

      Designed for busy parents, this all-in-one-day Childbirth Education Course will help prepare mom and her partner for the many aspects of childbirth. You’ll learn the many facets of delivery, with the opportunity to ask questions helping you make informed decisions about critical issues surrounding your baby’s birth.       The Spinning Babies Parent Class is designed for expecting moms after the 20th week of pregnancy. This class highlights rotating the baby down and out of the pelvis. Turning (spinning) is referred to as fetal rotation and descent. During labor, the baby must rotate and descend through the three levels of the pelvis to be born. Without this movement on the baby’s part, vaginal birth is not possible. Spinning Babies Parent Class provides: Four hours of instruction and practical application Essential daily activities to give you greater ease in pregnancy and help give baby space to move and settle into the correct birth position. Balance techniques to prepare and maintain your body in a balanced, supple, and flexible condition for birth. Birth positions specific to the three levels of the pelvis as solutions when labor doesn’t move forward in a typical pattern. The day of class requirements- Support person required (significant other, friend, mom etc.) Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a large exercise ball (65-75cm), two pillows (bed pillows okay), and a large towel or yoga mat.       Nurturing Your Newborn

      Please note: This class is a 2 in 1 class that includes the Newborn Care Class and Breastfeeding Basics and Beyond. The morning portion of this class will include breastfeeding benefits and techniques, the physiology of making milk, positioning and latch, how to know baby is getting enough milk, keeping up your milk supply, where to go for help, learn about our lactation consultants and breastfeeding forums. Pump rentals and a visit to our Lactation Connection resource center are also included in this class. The afternoon segment of this class will cover newborn appearances and behavior, daily care of the newborn, signs of illness, and when to call the doctor. Tummy time, comfort and soothing techniques, how to keep your baby safe, newborn screenings and vaccinations will also be discussed. Partners are encouraged to attend.
