The Importance of Genetic Research

Genetic research plays a crucial role in understanding medical conditions, disease progression, medication response and future treatments. Ensuring diversity in ethnicity, gender and background is vital for this research to be inclusive and effective for all populations.

In support of this, Renown Health provides no-cost genetic screening to Nevadans through the Healthy Nevada Project. This initiative focuses on identifying genetic risk factors for CDC Tier 1 conditions, including breast and ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer and heart disease. Participants also benefit from receiving information about their ancestry.

What is Genomic Medicine?

Genomic Medicine is the study of our genes (DNA) and their interactions with our health. Each person has a unique set of DNA, which is why Renown believes that we should use a person’s biological information to help personalize and improve care and achieve better health outcomes.

What is Genetics?

Genetics helps individuals and families learn more about how conditions are inherited in families, what screening and testing options are available, and, for some genetic conditions, what treatments may be available.
