About Helix Health
Helix Health looks at specific parts of your DNA to see if you have genetic changes (variants) that may increase your risk for certain hereditary conditions.
What the Screening Covers
This test looks for variants linked to three actionable conditions:
- Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH): Very high cholesterol that can cause heart disease at an earlier age.
- Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome (HBOC): Involving the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which increase your risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
- Lynch Syndrome: A hereditary form of colorectal cancer.
These conditions were chosen because there are proven steps you and your care team can take if you are found to be at higher risk.
What Your Results Mean
- Both positive and negative results will be added to your medical record and your Helix account.
- If a concerning variant is found, a healthcare professional or licensed genetic counselor will contact you to discuss next steps.
- Having a variant does not always mean you will develop the condition, but knowing your risks allows for better prevention and care planning.
Why This Matters
Family history often guides doctors in estimating your risk. But family history can be incomplete or inaccurate — some relatives may not know or share their diagnosis, or they may carry a variant without ever showing symptoms. Helix Health helps fill in those gaps by providing more precise genetic insights.
More on Genetic Counseling
If you or your family have a history of one of these conditions, you may want to talk with a genetic counselor or your doctor about whether additional testing is right for you.
