Hands-On Emergency Experience

Ready for an exciting career in emergency medicine? Renown offers a unique EMT trainee program that allows future EMTs to enjoy an educational experience while working full-time with benefits.

The curriculum of this hands-on 10-week program includes classroom time, skills laboratory, simulation, clinical time and ambulance ride-alongs. In addition, trainees will learn about:

  • EMT roles and responsibilities
  • Airway management
  • Patient assessment
  • Medical emergencies
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Documentation
  • Lifting and moving
  • Communications

Upon completing this course, trainees will be eligible to take the National EMT Registry test and certify as an EMT in the State of Nevada. Then, based on open positions, program graduates work in the Emergency Departments at Renown Regional Medical Center, Renown South Meadows Medical Center and Renown Children’s Hospital, and our Critical Care Units.

After completing the exam and based on openings, EMT-B candidates will move to work in the Regional ED, South Meadows ED, Pediatrics ED, as an ER Tech, orthopedics or in the General Surgery Units as an Acute Care Tech - Basic.

AEMT candidates are eligible to work in any ER department, along with our Cardiac Telemetry units and the Clinical Decisions team, as an Acute Care Tech – Advanced. In addition, paramedic candidates are eligible to work in any emergency room setting or the Neuro Stroke ICU.
