Stereotactic Radiosurgery Compared With Hippocampal-Avoidant Whole Brain Radiotherapy (HA-WBRT) Plus Memantine for 5 or More Brain Metastases

Short Title: CCTG CE.7

Enrollment Status: Recruiting

NCT #: NCT03550391

Specialty Area: Oncology

Condition Studied: Brain Metastases

Age Groups: Adult; Older Adult

Phase: III

Study Information

Summary / Purpose

To study different radiation treatment approaches for people who have five or more cancer metastases in the brain. This study compares a focused, one-day form of radiation therapy called stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) with whole-brain radiation therapy that spares part of the brain important for memory and is given with a medication that may help protect thinking and memory. The goal of the study is to better understand how these approaches compare in terms of effectiveness, side effects, and impact on quality of life.

Study Type: Interventional
Accepts Healthy Volunteers: No

Who Can Participate

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Adults 18+ years of age
  • Diagnosed with cancer that has spread to the brain
  • At least five but no more than 15 measurable brain metastases, with the largest lesion under 2.5 cm
  • Able to tolerate the assigned radiation treatments

What's Involved

Participation in the study will include:
  • Either Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) or hippocampal-avoidant whole brain radiotherapy (HA-WBRT)
  • Regular treatment visits
  • Brain scans
  • Follow-up visits to monitor side effects and quality of life

ER Wait Times

How are wait times calculated?

Our estimated ER wait times reflect the average time from check-in to being seen by a medical professional during triage, where patients are prioritized based on the severity of their condition.
