Healthgrades, a leading national resource for trusted information about physicians and hospitals, recently announced the recipients of their 2021 Specialty Excellence Awards. These awards recognize hospitals with superior performance and have selected Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., as northern Nevada’s top hospital for critical care.
Gold Plus Award for StrokeAwarded the Gold Plus Achievement award in 2020 by the American Stroke Association. This award recognizes the hospital team for quality achievement in the Get With The Guidelines quality improvement program.
U.S. News & World Report
In the U.S. News and World Report Best Hospital 2018-19 rankings, Renown Regional Medical Center was rated High Performing, its highest rating possible, for Colon Cancer Surgery. Renown South Meadows was rated High Performing for Hip Replacement. A hospital's score is based on multiple data categories, including patient outcomes, safety, and volumes. Hospitals earning a high-performing rating were significantly better than the national average.
American Association of Critical Care Nurses - Beacon Award for Excellence
Renown’s Roseview, Sierra, and Cardiac Intensive Care Units earned the Beacon Award of Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). This award is based on sustained unit performance and patient outcomes that exceed national benchmarks. Renown had the only Intensive Care units awarded this distinction in Nevada.
Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer
Renown Health was awarded the 2018 Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), becoming one of a select group of 24 U.S. accredited cancer programs to receive this national honor for cancer surveys performed January 1 – December 31, 2018. Renown's cancer program was evaluated on 34 program standards categorized within five cancer program activity areas: program management, clinical services, continuum of care services, patient outcomes, and data quality. The cancer program was further evaluated on seven commendation standards.
Commission on Cancer Accreditation
Renown Institute for Cancer received three-year full accreditation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons with commendation in all seven areas. Only 25 percent of cancer programs attain this distinction, which recognizes the quality of comprehensive, multidisciplinary patient care. Renown is the only accredited Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer program in northern Nevada to be selected, and one of only three programs statewide.
Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation
Renown Regional earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation for three years. During the review in December, Joint Commission surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital standards related to emergency management, care environment, infection prevention and control, leadership, and medication management. Renown South Meadows Medical Center received The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® accreditation for Total Knee Replacement, Total Hip Replacement, and Total Shoulder Replacement. Renown Hospice achieved a deficiency-free Joint Commission Survey with two best practices identified.
Designated Level II Trauma Center
Renown Health-award-level-2-trauma-center awarded by the American College of Surgeons, Renown Regional Medical Center is northern Nevada's only designated level II trauma center.
The Institute for Neurosciences' EEG Laboratory is accredited by the Laboratory Accreditation Board of ABRET; accreditation means the EEG Laboratory met strict standards and is recognized as a place where patients and physicians can have confidence they are receiving quality diagnostics. ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) is the credentialing board for EEG, Evoked Potential, and Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Technologists.
Children's Miracle Network Hospitals
Renown Children’s Hospital is the only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital (CMNH) in northern Nevada. Renown has been affiliated with CMNH since 1985. Local CMNH programs and events generate an average of $500,000 annually to benefit children in our region.
American College of Radiology (ACR)
Radiation Therapy at Renown Institute for Cancer is the only program in the region to receive national accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for radiation oncology. Only 222 facilities in the United States have received ACR Accreditation for Radiation Oncology and Renown Regional is the only hospital in the northern Nevada and northern California area to earn this national honor.
